Looked at a ‘11 Tacoma 4x4 this evening for my son. Truck is clean, interior clean, undercarriage clean and mostly rust free (other than some surface rust here and there), aside from the spots in these pics.

First spot was driver side frame, inner side, right by cat. It seemed solid, not at all like it was getting thin.

Second spot was just to the rear of the first pic, where the frame starts to box.

    Closer pic of same spot

Is the rust shown above to the point that I should walk, or would it likely be ok if I keep it covered up with Fluid Film / Surface Shield (which I would do to the whole frame regardless?

Truck is priced right and I’d prob get it in the morning if you guys (with far more knowledge on the frame subject) thought it wasn’t a great deal for concern.

    Thanks

    I’d pass.
The first picture isn’t “too” bad.
But the 2nd one shows a bad case of delaminating.

    It’s a no for me.

Could call a dealer and have them run the vin to see if it’s eligible for a replacement. My 09 was done about 2 years ago and they said it just made it by a couple months. 100% free of charge.

100% agree with this. ^^^^ If it's not eligible for a frame replacement, move on. It's well on its way to destruction. Remember, a frame only has to fail in one place to cause a big problem for you.

What rust you can see is bad, what you can't see is probably even worse. I'd run away from this one.

Called the local dealer and gave them the vin to check. Window closed last year. I passed.

Id bet it’s already gone today, some sap who just thinks “it’s a Toyota” and isn’t aware of the frame issues will buy it in a heartbeat.

    Thank you guys. Much appreciated.

Saved yourself and your son a bunch of trouble and money.

Good looking out for your kid.
