Feeler: ARB/ViAir mount under passenger seat (2nd/3rd Gen)

    Thanks! The downside is the compressors won't fit without the Seat Jackers. Period.

    The only way you're fitting a single ARB, dual ARB, or Viair is with our front and rear Seat Jackers. It's not happening any other way. There's just not enough room under the seat without them.

    Fully understood. I'm thinking from a selfish angle of course but also from an engineering angle, it seems the tray would be strongest if the ears were underneath the jackers rather than on top, also this might allow engagement through the extra pin or whatever you call that pointing thing which ensures the seat is properly centered on the mounting threads? Perhaps the primary concern is with the strength of the jacker?

    How do you handle the possibility of mounting on top of more than one height of rear seat jacker? Don't you want the tray as low as possible without obstructing the vent? Does the higher jacker involve two pieces with the tray in between?

    EDIT: Changed front to rear after re-reading the post about requirements for single v twin.

    All good points, we feel like we get more panel rigidity and don't fight the unpredictability of the carpet and floor pan if we mount on top of the Seat Jackers. Our rear Seat Jackers are adjustable in .25" increments so for the rear, you would mount the compressor panel at .75" and then stack the extra .5" spacers on top of the bracket to get the seat clearance for a twin compressor.

    Hopefully that makes sense. I assure you we've tested several variations and we've found this to be the best solution. BUT we are always looking to improve so don't stop the critical thinking!

    Would ventilation be a concern with that location?

    We haven't but may in the future. I think the most logical place is behind the rear seat. I'm thinking a single ARB or Viair would fit all day, a twin would be a tight fit due to width and height once the top fitting is on.

    I like the idea for sure.

    I'm not sure ventilation would be too bad, maybe heat if you were running it more that 10-15 min. Which would be rare unless you had 8 37" tires to air up from flat.

    For those that were interested, these are available, For Sale thread.

    Regarding concerns of heat....

    Most automotive wiring is rated for above 250 degrees for many continuous hours. The ViAir and ARB are thermally protected right around 160-200 degrees to prevent their internal heat from damaging anything as well as limiting exterior heat. So as long as the installer has confirmed all wires are secured out of the way, the risk is extremely low.
