Okay, put me down for one and I'll confirm when you get close to your required minimum. Hopefully the truck will be here by then.

Are the prices for the FJ rack the same? And are there actual pictures of one on a vehicle yet? If there was and it looks as good as what it does in the pictures, I'd be on this like white on rice.

You may wanna post this up on FJcruiserforums.com, that's where I found someone posting about these. They require a sponsorship but it ain't much I don't think. Good luck man and look forward to hearing back about the pictures of the FJ rack. my email is rcbaughn@yahoo.com if you need to email them.

I am still probably about a week or two out for the first FJ rack to be complete. Then I will have pics of it on a vehicle.

Zach, roughly how many people do you need orders from before you're able to fab a group of racks?

I don't necessarily need to do a group, it just it makes it easier as far as buying materials. If I can get roughly 6-8 then I can just purchase a full sheet of steel and have the rails cut from there rather than cutting one at a time and wasting a bunch of material. I have 2 people for the tacoma racks right now and will be cutting a set of rails for the FJ with this same batch most likely. If you are in a hurry I can go ahead and cut them sooner. Let me know.

I haven't actually fabbed any yet. There are some images showing the 3-d model built while designing them. I will be building them per orders placed because each set will be slightly different. As far as mounting goes, when I build mine I will be mounting them to the thule tracks that came with my topper. If you don't have the tracks you can buy some or we can make so the rack mounts directly to the topper with some rubber pads under the feet.

Somewhere in the post I offered a set of free thule tracks to the first person to order a rack for the topper. I have a set I bought for my topper and then found out my topper came with them preinstalled so these have been sitting ever since.

Another update is that I got a quote on having an aluminum version welded together and it was quite pricey. I am going to check with a few other places but the one quote I got was like $240. That plus the price of the kit at $350-375 puts the total price at $600 before shipping. Total would be roughly 650-675 shipped. At that point you are starting to get into the same price range as the baja rack and front runner slimline so I don't know how many will be interested. I am going to check with some other shops and see what they can do.

Zach, have you considered bolting in an aluminum extrusion? The company that makes them is 80/20 inc. When I get around to making a rack I'll be using these as cross bars.

    80/20

I've downloaded their software that tells you the strength of each shape. For instance the 3075 profile only has a 1/4" deflection under a centered 100lb point load with a 47" span. You could drill two holes in your side rails and tap the holes in the bar to accept bolts. The shear strength is way higher than the capacity of the rack.

You also get the benefit of being able to use t-slot fasteners to tie down the load. Just an idea. Glad to see someone making their own stuff.

great idea. that's exactly what I was planning on doing. 80/20 can be found online and locally and is easy to work with.

No, don't rush it for me. Lets wait and see if some more folks want to order so you can get the most you can out of your materials.

That stuff looks great, I am going to contact the distributers in my area to see what kind of options they have to see if It would be a possibility for these racks.

Basically the feet of the rack will rest on the tracks and then bolt to them with the thule hardware. Thule sells a type of skewed rectangle washer that fits in the tracks. Those paired with the thule bolts will hold the rack to the tracks.
