Without a wind deflector of some sort, yes. It is very noisy. I am trying to decide now on either a deflector like front runner makes for their slimline racks or something more traditional like a thule fairing or the ones on the baja utility rack.

That is a great looking rack!! Does the back clear the satellite radio antenna on trucks with one?

I am going to go to the dealer tomorrow and get some measurements on the shark fin antenna to see. Unless someone on here has it already. I was unaware of the rear antenna on some trucks until someone brought it up in this thread earlier.

If the antenna is in the way, the furthest crossbar back can be moved forward to allow it to fit.

I'd totally be interested in this, kind of curious about the noise/fairing issue though. Will see how it plays out. Where in Utah are you located if I wanted to pick up locally to avoid shipping costs?

Speaking of the fairing issue. I just ran to home depot and did a caveman version of a fairing to test one option. I basically took a 3"x 3" flashing and bent it so that the angle was about 45 rather than the 90 that they come as. I clamped this to the front crossbar with the flashing angled down towards the truck cab. Got up to 65 mph in a test drive and the noise was gone completely. Only thing I could hear was the humming of my MT's.

That being said, the fairing will probably end up being an angled piece of aluminum that mounts to the front crossbar. I still want to explore the option of a piece of acrylic or lexan mounted to the two rails in front of the cross bars.

I am located in Northern UT. Logan to be exact. I often travel to Salt Lake though.

Probably didn't check the OP lol

I know it's a bit of a copy cat from Pelfreybilt, but when I get mine, I'm gonna look into mounting a 40"(or bigger) LED bar and some clear plastic as a fairing over it...

This is what I am hoping to do as well. Although I like the subtle look of the front runner style deflector on MrGrimm's truck. I just was reluctant to believe that type of deflector could make such an impact till I did my little test tonight.

Updated some pricing info in the OP. Still trying to figure out how shipping will work if someone were to buy a full kit or an assembled rack. Also working on a wind deflector to add as an option. I thought I had one figured out with some lexan but mocked it up today and didn't like the way it turned out. I will probably end up doing out of some aluminum plate.

I would like to try and get a running list of those who may be interested in these so I can start to figure out a schedule to get everything fabricated and ready. If you are interested, either post here with the item you are interested in or send me a PM. I will keep track of everyone and try to get a plan ready for a batch of these to be built.

How soon do you think you'd be ready to ship? I will be moving at the beginning of March (hopefully!) and it would be a hassle lol

Turn around time shouldn't be long. I just would like to get a fair number of people to jump on board so I can hopefully cut the cut the costs down for everyone a little.
