i dont want to get into a rant about capacitors, their useless band aids.
Battery reserve capacity is important for sure but that battery still needs to get charged. The greater the draw the greater charging capacity you need.the larger your reserve capacity is the longer you can play without needing to be charged but ultimately the greater charge capacity and reserve capacity the better.
amps and other 12v electronics hate voltage drop and its one of the main reasons amps die. Current draw and internal resistance of the wires and connectors all contribute to voltage drop. Easy to see symptom is the dimming lights
do yourself a fav, check all grounds, use larger wire and do a big 3.
your charging system is simply not keeping up, and you can only add so many batteries.

my new system is designed based on a 250 amp alt, and 300-400ah @20amps per hour draw to supply my amps with the amount of power they need when demanded. i always watch my voltage and once it starts to drop to 11v i know i need to throttle back and let them charge up a bit.

caps are useless as they drain fast, then your alternator has to charge the battery, the cap and still supply some power to the amp. pointless waist of money.

i really dont want to debate this, there are countless and countless audio forums that discuss reserve capacity and alternators and the effects of poor charging systems,

There's a place in Calgary that will rebuild your alternator to put out a lot more amps. I think it's called starter and alternator depot.

I completely agree with you. username, to keep this thread back on topic, I will answer you in a PM.

Wasn't trying to get it off topic, but I did want people to know the facts before spending alot of money on something like this. Its not practical for everyday drivers.

The problem with dual batteries is they let you go longer because your reserve capacity is larger but then they strain you alternator harder because it has to charge two batteries back up now. A 2nd battery is just a short term fix and actually makes things worse in the long run. Ultimately the alternator is what restores the power and the more it puts out the better you are.

Ultimately yes this alt is probably overkill for most people but for tbose that need it it will be great.

    No worries,
there are other things at play if hes running his truck and a 1000 watt system is draining it to that point. id personally do a few other things before id go and buy an alt in his position

Its still in the works but im taking one group buy at a time.
The next group buy that will hit is the Big3 one
The alternator GB will happen in the new year once things have settled down,
Companies have their op's back up and running at full steam
and people have the funds ready

Alternator shops can rewind them for you. Just drop it off and you get it back looking brand new. Nowhere near the output of these alternators, but an improvement. You'd have to ask around at your local shops.

Big 3 is usually done yes, but also without replacing the alternator.
