Do any of you have a self pull it junkyard nearby? My friend has stuffed a Land Rover V8 into a 1975 TVR 2500M and he gathered all of the wiring harness from the donor Defender II in case he needed it. He finished the wiring portion and gave me the old harness. I spent some time sifting through it and bought a set of depinning tools from Amazon and had some fun polishing up my depinning skills. Now I have a five gallon bucket of a whole bunch of automotive wires in various colors, some connectors and lots of pins. Some time in any junkyard Toyota will probably yield a ton of wiring that you can use for numerous projects. Just a suggestion.

Yeah the ones I sourced have a little fin on top that you can just bend off.

No idea how the ones they were using compare besides lack of the fin on top. I didn't really compare the dimensions.

Edit: the ones they were using also have a nub that sticks up just at glance on the CAD drawing specs

Local pick n pull hardly has anything Toyota. Mostly a bunch of domestic junk.

It's fine tho, cause I already have a crimper. Sourcing the correct pins by dimensions can be annoying but it saves a shitload of cash for high volume.

If I had to do it again I probably would do the junkyard harness grab and depinning deal.

ah you are right. I just noticed that. I may just get both and see what works. Technically I may need some that work in my HVAC area which do look similar to these.

I was thinking about that. After time and travel it ends up being more effort.

Maybe I'm in for headaches down the road, but I didn't use a crimper, just a smalllllll set of pliers to fold the tabs over on top of the wire and insulation.

If its held on tight, I am sure it will work just fine. Crimper is the ideal. Prob goes $$$ crimper, Generic crimper, whatever you can use to fold it.

If it was on pretty good, I would think it will be ok.

I just ordered 5 or 6 different .64 connectors from Mouser. I figure one will be right and for the price I will have a ton extra and was still cheaper than one OEM wire. If I find a better one than what has been noted, I will post it up.

It'll be fine, just not as secure as a good crimp. I actually use pliers sometimes to do the old fold over method if I don't have a crimper that fits. What I do after is solder the connection to provide further security, though solder isn't Meant to be an adhesive it at least ensures a good connection.

Is there anyone with a 2014 or 2015 that has swapped to black steering wheel controls, willing to part with their stock silver pieces?
Nuno, do you still have your stock steering wheel controls? I may need to buy a set.

I need to do that as well. Need to find the right color to use. Some black of course.

Also need to wire the steering wheel ground for it to light up and figure out why the hell my Helux switch wont light up and my HVAC is dim.

Maybe someone here will have an idea. I posted up in another thread on this.

This is for getting a 2013 to work with the new controls.

I pinned the S8 connector and used pin 9 as noted by many folks. The controls are still not lighting up. Ill update later directly if I can. Tore the shit out of my truck to get this to work and irritated as hell. Had issues with Helux switching not lighting up and ongoing issue of the HVAC panel not lighting up bright anymore.

Here are a couple photos of my S8 connector and my Ground.

    IMG_0059.jpg IMG_0060.jpg

ON a more positive note I got around to Derping the gauge surround and emblem. I still need to clean up the emblem but you get the idea.

If your ground is that black wire, I'm pretty sure you stuck your ground in the wrong slot. Should be the slot next to the green wire that's on the lower side of the picture. The diagram posted in that one thread is confusing as shit cause the terminals are numbered as if you are looking straight at the female side not the connector itself.

I at least do remember it was directly next to the horn ground because I accidentally made contact with it and the horn went off lol.

That is confusing. I looked a a document from toyota on the connectors and that showed that as pin 9. 3 over from the left. Like you said. I am probably looking at it backwards then. That is confusing. So If I move it over to the next pin I should have some luck? I will give that a try as yes it is the black wire.
