I requested off the 14th-15th, so I'm still planning for those day. Going to be a blast flying through the middle of the desert. Hope there is some sections I could just open her up.

through a number of the washes, you will have to be pinned to get through without sinking in, and the dirt access roads are wide open... just keep your eyes open as a lot of the area has free roaming cattle... hitting one of those at anything over 40mph might send you on a quick trip to the morgue...

Nice, thanks Mike for the heads up. I'm sure I'll keep a few notches below what I usually do since I'm pretty far from home. Can't wait, I'm getting anxious as this event is getting closer. Truck hasn't been to the desert since march

yah, its best to wheel this smart, although there are some sections you will hit upwards of 70mph and it will feel like driving on the fwy since you are LT...

my only caveat is that it's a popular area for the Jeep clubs and more expeditionary type wheelers, so cross traffic and head on traffic might be high as the weather has been perfect out there lately...

on this last run through there, we had to pull over a number of times and came across countless other rigs, and a bunch of "tourist" wheelers in their Honda Ridgelines and other SUVs...

we even came across a couple vans with senior citizens taking nature pics...

oh, and on the trails leading up to the mailbox and flag, watch out for the rocks that are just under the surface of dirt... some of them pop out of nowhere and with some speed, you can bend a wheel or break your suspension...

seems like this trail has everything! I hope most everyone has a race radio because my cb is crapping out and I pretty much just use the race radio now.

yah, i have both CB and Race Frequency radio in my truck and i only use the CB now to monitor truckers on ch.19 on freeways...

the clarity and range of Ham and Race radio surpasses CB by a long shot...

How much do Race Radios cost and what's the best place to get them?

if you want just a race radio that is specifically pre-programmed with the popular race frequencies, you can get into a chase radio like this...

    http://www.pciraceradios.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=8354435058437619969

if you want to get into Ham and work on a license, a lot of desert wheelers and racers use the Icom V8000 ham radio... you can get them on ebay for about 250 to 280 brand new...

then a nice antenna will run you between 30 and 70 bux...
