Hey everyone, so I just got my new to me Tacoma yesterday. Its an 09 SR5 4 door V6 auto 140k. I drove it a ton today and noticed, and the best way I can describe it, it's like if your towing a trailer and when you come to a stop you can kinda feel the trailer push the vehicle a little then when you take you can can kinda feel it grab the truck a little. Like the little bit of movement in the hitch, if that makes sense. But I have no trailer on it.

I slid under it today and tried giving the driveshaft a twist, had no play. I did notice the carrier bearing had a fair amount of movement, but I think that's normal with the bearing being rubber mounted.

The tires are cupped bad on it, but I've never heard of tires doing anything like that.

I was messing with it on the way home tonight, it does seem like it will only do it when the trans is in gear. In neutral the couple times I tried it I never noticed it.

I'm going to slide back under it in the morning and mess with those u joints some more. Check all the rear end mounts, trans mounts. Might even pull off the rear tires and clean and adjust and relube the rear brakes to make sure they're not grabbing. But I would think that would be an all the time thing, not just under load but I've seen way weirder.

Hoping maybe this is something common I just haven't read about on here yet or am searching for incorrectly. Appreciate any input.

    Keith

Part of it is axle wrap, part of it is the transmission.

Double check the torque on the U-bolts... some have been found loose.
Add clamps to the ends of the leaf packs.

    It will help a bit.

On the "software" side... "feather" the brake. Don't hold full stopping power all the way to the complete stop. Over the last 5-10ft, ease up on the brake.
It will make the final stop MUCH more comfortable on you and your passengers, and will give them the impression that you are a skilled driver.

Try tightening the ubolts for the rear leafs I don't remember the exact specs but its supposed to be around 80 ft pounds. There isn't a lot the can be done about the lurch. Just one of the quriks of these truck.
