Gotcha. For some reason I I thought you were planning the spray the entire underside of your truck which would obviously include the frame

I had thought about spraying the frame when I first got the truck, but after watching the paint flake off all the welds I decided something else has to be done there. Since I don't want to strip the truck to the frame to do that part right, the frame will get spot treatment and fluid film in the areas that hold water.

are you pleased with the Krown? I am looking into that and seeing how it works

it's a bit too cold in MN to get out of your truck and spray and wash it all by hand with the spray wand?
I have done that for over 25yrs until my knuckles near the point of frostbite :( ... no body panel rot, just a couple spots popped up recently and have no clue how they got there in the doorjam

    Yeah so far so good

I’m getting it coated again in a few weeks, haven’t been under the truck since winter so I’ll get another look then. Last year it looked great, and that was it’s 2nd winter, all salt.

I was originally in PA and only 2hrs from a shop that did Krown....now I’m in MN and 7hrs away. Lucky I’m still traveling for work near places that do it. I’d say it’s worth it if it’s convenient, but god forbid this truck gets totaled, I’ll probably go fluid film on the next one and do it myself. All depends how hands-on you want to be.

Wait until the dead heat of summer when everything is tinder dry, then soak everything exposed with fluid film. Then don't rinse the underside until the following spring. If you don't wash the fluid film away everything wil be protected.

an indie shop about a mile from me does Krown, but I am needing some spots cleaned up first unless that Krown just eats the surface corrosion off like I think one of his workers was demonstrating to me on an FJ frame they were replacing

do you put that ff stuff up in the wheel wells? that is my main area of concern where the treads kick up that nasty krap
rockers also important and door jams, tailgate, all that and more its a hassle I tell ya

Nah I don’t think it works like that.....it’s oily, not really corrosive. I’d bet on cleaning those bits up before you coat with anything, Krown or FF

thanks, I am almost done replacing all of the wheel molding screws with fresh new black ones (you should see how sharp looking they are now!)
after 22yrs of painstaking spraying the wheel wells out I was amazed how crusty the old screw threads were! I thought they just screw into plastic grommets up in there

ya I need to go back and talk some more with him, see what the hell he gonna do for the price he quoted me
maybe it was something else they were spraying on the FJ frame that it looked to be dissolving

i just got my lower fuel shield/skid sandblasted and powdercoated, it looks real nice!

i need a new fuel tank strap (over a $100 new) or maybe I can get mine off and get the crusty off and some hi-grade pro paint, not sure what to do yet

@Frontier Man, are you doing anything with your fuel tank strap?

Maybe it’s the “salt wash” they typically do before the crown....it’s just meant to dissolve chunks of salty crap that have stuck to the past coating before they apply another layer. It won’t clean up rust or anything though

that ff stuff looks funky from some pics online, i gotta see it up close first i think, and if it washes right off at the spray n wash that is money down the drain?

it would be.....just don't wash it off

you don't put deodorant on and then jump in the shower......just leave it and let it do it's thing!

edit: also Krown is no different.....the guys that put on mine specifically told me not to go through any underbody washes because it'll rip it off with the high pressure water.....they see it happen all the time to the road salt trucks out there in PA
