That is awesome to hear. I am guessing it is a UHMW PE fiber mix or something similar? I am looking at these for my Tacoma but also for my jet boat. Installation application is the hard part there. Not quite as easy as the inside of a wheel well, lol. Thank you for replying and do not be surprised if you get a PM from me.

Hey Cody @cnote4l , I got a question...I'm going to be trimming my fenders and flares for more tire clearance for my 35's on my 2nd gen and I'm wondering how your fendx fender liners are attached for diy trimmed fenders. Do they attach to the flares also or just the fenders on the outer edges? I'm wondering because I've been an autobody tech for 40+ years and was going to fab a way to attach them to the fenders and flares as well to help make the flares more sturdy after trimming them. So should I order them for diy trimmed fenders and mount them your way? Or order for oem fenders and fab It myself?

    Welp, same request then :boink:.

I think these liners could just be attached to my bent tabs and be fine, but the sturdier the better.

One of my fab ideas is to trim off (in one whole piece) about 2" of the flare. Then cut the trimmed off portion into two pieces and attach them to the inner backside of the flare so as to use the original attachment tabs/holes. We have some very strong, durable adhesives available to me at the shop. I'm just trying to avoid having bolts going thru my flares around the wheel wells like this
    Screenshot_20210218-231219_Samsung Internet.jpg

What I'm basically asking is if this^ is how the mounting hardware kit comes for diy trimmed fenders, then should I just order the oem fender option and fab it myself to avoid having bolts thru my flares?

When cutting your fender and flares leave tabs, it takes wayyyyyyy longer but it’ll be worth it. spoke with Cody and tabs will be fine for supper. If you don’t leave tabs he sends L brackets that drill in to your fender but the head is hidden under the flare.

regarding flare sturdiness after trimming, I made a little aluminum plate that attaches at the front. It sandwiches/ connects the plastic flare to the body and for the read I put a bolt through the flare and fender using one of those sponges as a spacer.

holding on fine. Only issue is the wind drag and had one clip snap, think it’s one that broke when I was pulling them off and maybe didn’t let the JB weld sit long enough or my buddy who’s one job was to reattach the clip holes for ones that ripped did a shitty job. Either way when I install my liners I’ll fix it and wind drag should be non factor.

    The difference between the
OEM configuration VS. DIY Trimmed option is the (DIY) Fend-X Liner is wider along the fender edge and runs along the outside of the Fender VS the OEM config routes along the inside (behind the tabs). For 2nd Gens when trimming the fenders/flares you’ll naturally incur another gap between the actual fender and the flare that would cause the wind drag that @Mista_G mentioned. which is why the Fend-X Liner is wider for DIY configuration to allow for the end user to trim to spec.

@PyritePirateBill @Taco-Obsessed As for trimming the fenders, it’s best practice to reincorporate tabs into the new cut which ultimately translates into attachment points. For example:
    BF7ECF21-C065-4480-86A2-6AFC9BC7112A.jpg
    24762CA4-FDC6-4A8C-A120-44D348119AD6.jpg
If you’ve already trimmed and didn’t reincorporate tabs, it’s definitely not the end of the world. I’ve found that using L brackets is a sure fire way to fixate those attachment points which will serve the same purpose as tabs. For Example:
    AC622CE9-834D-4DD7-9C47-4D5DC2DF20D9.jpg

In the pic below, the owner used a similar L bracket to what’s shown above which is Tapped into the actual fender and concealed under the Flare. The hardware along the flare is just aesthetic, to resemble the pocket style fender flares. You can get a better visual of what I mean from this angle
