^this. I always thought it was held on with adhesive until recently I replaced my fog lights with OEM led fogs and had to take the clips off. When I re-installed all the clips and fender screws correctly, I realized the loose fender flare I thought needed adhesive was actually fixed by adjusting the clip and screws properly

I bought a 2023 DCSB TRD SPORT 4X4 6 days ago. I noticed my right rear fender flare started pulling away from the body. I took it to a Toyota dealer and the first service advisor blew me off and told me to go the collision center. Then they blew me off and told me to go back to service. Then finally a different advisor agreed to help me, very reluctantly.

They ordered a new "seal kit" and he told me it could take weeks to get and once they get it, days to repair.

I was very concerned about having some pissed off, annoyed tech do a shitty half ass job replacing the fender flare on my brand new truck.

I found this advice, tried it, and BOOM! IT WORKED!! The flare fits tightly against the body again! I checked all the flares and found one to "clicks". Im so happy I don't have to go back to that dealership and worry about some dickhead effing up my truck!

I have used this 'Exterior' 3M adhesive tape and have to state that is it possible this is too strong and may result in you damaging your paint, sheet metal or, flare. I used the 1/2" version to hold up a detector with an aluminum mounting flange weighing ~2 lbs. While I was able to remove it with time and effort it took a lot of both to remove it.

I think it's also normal for the adhesive and the foam to breakdown over time to it should bother anyone if the need arises but I wouldn't be happy if this happened on a new vehicle either. The clip idea is a great find but I think I'll start with a milder version of the narrow tape roll if it exists. The driver's front flare tape is breaking down on my 2016 so it's no surprise to me I need to freshen the tape in view of the age of the vehicle.

Edit - The 3M product I used previously may have been a different exterior tape. The face that this one is labelled 'Auto' means it may well be okay. I guess I need to purchase both rolls to answer this.

This might be suitable from an application point of view but the 1.1 mm thickness of the tape makes me think it is likely to be too thin. I set my caliper for .043"/1.1 mm and while it is close it seems to me the VHB is most likely too thin unless the clips that are referred to in this thread have tolerance that will allow the flare to be offset closer to the sheet metal. My SR5 does not have the clip problem so I cannot tell if this is the case until after I replace my flares in the coming weeks.
