@khill007 you might want to do a single layer of tape anyways just to keep the flares from slowly sanding your paint off where it touches

Thanks @Nitori for the write up. I picked up some used flares for $175 on ebay and dipped them black. Here's how they look on the truck.

Looks awesome! Did you have to punch/drill any holes? I want to do the same.... How much did this all cost?

i'm picking up my 2018 BBP sr5 tomorrow, so i stopped to check it out after work today. surprise! no over fenders. partially my fault, partially the dealers. i thought that black over fender was standard on sr, and color match was an option for sr5 (black being standard). which i asked the salesperson, and they agreed. getting home and checking the literature, it appears the sr has no over fender option and the sr5 only has the color match option (which i didn't want to pay extra for color. turns out the extra cost was for the whole damn thing!). not sure i like it w/o them....i'm going to ask about it when i pick it up.

so the factory installed over fenders have tape on the top seam, just like OP used? i live in WNY, so salt IS a concern....i have them on my 2015, and no issues than i can tell.

This is awesome. I would like to do this with my SR. One question: how does a mod like this affect the warranty and/or extended coverage?

It shouldn't affect you warranty. You can look at this like just an accessories type mod like tinting your windows.

    Shouldn't effect warranty at all.

There was somebody on here that did this without the 3M tape, so it ended up being plastic on paint which would surely rub through over time. Their logic was that the truck would be traded before it became a problem (Ugh ... this is why I never considered buying used, people like this).

If there was a rust issue in that area due to improper installation, there would surely be some push back from Toyota. Take your time and do it as outlined here, and you should be good to go.

Does any of the 3M tape go on the paint of the truck?

Yes, in fact the tape only goes on to the paint. This is also exactly how the factory does it and if you install it properly (clean first and wipe with alcohol wipes) this will not damage the paint.

Unless they are drilling holes in your quarter panels, save yourself $ and do it yourself. Install takes less than an hour. Either way, you'll be happy with the results.

It was part of the deal when I bought the truck last week. Originally they were just going to supply them to me , I told them I would put them on. But at the end of the whole buying process they set me up a appointment. They’re also removing these damn pinstripes too. I’ll ask how they plan on doing the install if they actually do install them

Hey bigl110. Did the dealership do the same thing or did they drill whole?

For the sake of my sanity as a new Tacoma owner whose SR5 is flareless. Is there specific site I can purchase all the parts in the thread? Links? Any help is greatly appreciated. I’m learning pretty quickly it’s easy to get lost on what’s the proper part.

Well these idiots put those ugly bushwacker flares on at first. I told them oem flare were supposed to go on. Dealer said I didn’t have to holes in fenders to put those on . I made them give me the oem flares and I bought the other parts and did it myself. They couldn’t wrap there head around me doing it myself. Pics comin soon
