I have the narrow thin Chrome fender flares on my '98 PreRunner. I'm looking to get the thick black fiberglass ones.

What year Tacomas should I be looking for to get some bolt-on fender flares? I heard the 95-00 model years are bolt-on to existing bolt locations, but 00-04 need to have square holes or something.

I don't want to drill any holes.

Yep,95-00 should bolt on in the same holes ,with no drilling ,as your chrome ones. I can take pics of where my 00's mount if you want. I think there are 6 bolts.
Just discussed over here too.. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/fender-flares-on-the-trd-trucks.473904/

Sure! That would be great. It mounts inside the wheel well right? I'm not too sure on how the Chrome ones are mounted.

Here's a couple pics...There are 6 bolts per wheel wheel and hold the plastic inner fender liner on to the fender too.

That's great, thank you. And am I correct in saying it only bolts on to these locations on the fender flares made from 95-00 only?

Yes, 01-04's are different and attach with plastic clips in square holes on the outside of the fender and probably the same six bolts .I guess you could use 3M double face tape instead of the clips.

I sure hope, the 95-00 flares are a lot rarer and people want it more since you don't have to drill holes. The Toyota scrapper by me charges $75 per flare ($300 for all 4). I found a guy who has a 2004 with all 4 flares intact on Craigslist but it's the '04 body style and I don't want to drill any holes. He only wanted $100 for all 4. If anyone is interested in that I can find his ad, seems like a hell of a deal. It's in the Northern Bay Area.

The 95-00 flares are smaller than the 01-04. Just so you know...

I couldn't find a dismantler who would sell the flares separately. They all wanted to sell the complete fender or bed assembly. After a lot of searching I finally found an individual who had a set for a decent price.

I heard the 95-00 style is better because they're more rugged and fiberglass, I really just don't want to drill holes for the 01-04 style. Do you really need holes on the outer fender the mount them?

I don't know that they are made of fiberglass. Someone else would have to confirm that. You could use an adhesive or double sided tape instead of drilling holes.

Will factory flares from a 2000 Tacoma work on a 2002 and cover the holes in the fenders?

Don't think so. 1995-2000 flares are a lot thinner than the 2001-2004 flares. They will fit but I doubt it'll cover the holes.

In the time since I made this post I actually picked up a set of 2001-2004 fender flares. I was right in saying the 1995-2000 flares are thin and fiberglass, and the 2001-2004 flares are thick and plastic. (the black ones at least)

In my case the 2001-2004 Flares bolted right up to my wheel well liner bolts. YOU DO NOT need the plastic clip that the 01-04 flares use, the wheel well liner bolts hold it just fine. It's just there for added structural integrity.

Got it. I like the idea of the fiberglass because I wanted to paint them to match the truck. But obviously I would like to cover the holes too. Thanks!

You can paint the plastic ones to match the truck too.

True, which I may do! I've got to find one to replace my left rear and I'm having difficulty finding one or getting anyone to follow through with a sale.
