Good point need to look into some sliders, wonder if those will help.

My concern about plastidipping is it's only a temporary solution.. It's going to keep happening. I know the solution finish might just dye it, but it makes sense that dyeing the pits could make them much less noticeable. But again, not a final solution.

Realize the running boards will stop it but I'm not much of a running board fan... It probably also costs less to get new back fenders after some time than it does to get running boards...

Problem is with mud flaps is my tires will knock them off. Won't last a day off road! Not a big fan of mud flaps either...

I know you can put a satin bra over them. Basically a matte sheet of plastic that you'd never be able to tell was on there. Only problem with that now is my fenders are too pitted to put one on. Putting on a bra now would just make things worse.

I haven't used it yet. Check the reviews on Amazon or ask there from the folks who've used it.

Besides the clips I think the flares use double-sided tape, you have to retape before putting them back on

TRD sport has paint film installed on the leading edge of the rear flares to prevent this.

For a long term fix, I'd have it bedlined.

Not pretty. But, far more effective than any alternatives.

You'll need something closed off on top and not open as typical sliders are.

I have color matched flares with 2000 miles and it looks the same as OP but black underneath the paint obviously. I was mad but what can you do lol shitty paint I guess! It honestly feels like they put the thinnest coat of paint on these new tacomas. :frusty:

It's not shitty paint in my opinion... it's the rocks/sand/etc that you are throwing against your paint every time you drive... The paint cannot take that and look new forever....

Either, protect it from new, or stop the shit from hitting there...

Very simple... You don't like running boards & mud flaps that's, OK, but get used to your paint job looking like shit..!!

Can't drive a Corvette Off Road and expect it to look Showroom when you get home...!!

Yeah we get that. But after 2 months and 2000 miles, paint chipping and pitting like that is absurd. I had a Dodge Ram an 35's that stuck out much further for years without the paint looking "sand blasted" I put 50k miles on it without issues! So in my opinion, yeah the paint job on the plastic fender flares of the Tacoma are shit. They should've put more thought into it. In my opinion. Which they don't care about anyway haha.

The paint on these trucks is shit. You are absolutely right.

I've heard and seen the black trucks have the thinnest little coat of black you could ever imagine.

The reason I posted this was because I couldn't see how the edge of the rear fender is getting blasted so badly, it does not look like it should be getting hit where it is.

I am frustrated because it is a fairly large area that is completely pitted from 15 or so miles of off roading. My truck has 3500 miles. I have owned numerous off road vehicles and I am no stranger to trail damage especially rock chips. Again this is happening very aggressively in a specific spot, there is a 8-9 inch section that is pitted really bad. As mentioned before I have mudflaps and my truck is stock. Based on the location of the area that is being affected, it does not look like it should be subject to debris from the front wheels but I can't imagine where else it would be from.

I am hoping plasti dip will help protect and not get too damaged but thinking about how quickly it got blasted the dip will likely be a very short term fix and need to be constantly re-applied. Im hoping someone smarter than me will think of something. Of course I can always just let it get pelted for a while and maybe replace the fenders down the road. It just doesn't seem right that after 15 mellow miles of off-road fire trails that there should be that much damage............ :annoyed:

My old 2000 started looking like that after 6 or 7 years of use, the material must not be as durable today.

I may be wrong but the plastic seems pretty standard. To get pitted the way it has in this short amount of time it must be getting a heavy stream of abrasive dirt, rocks, etc from the front wheels. I would understand if I was doing high speed pre running. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense

I have the same issue. My fenders are in absolutely terrible shape after one off roading trip.

    I can afford Gas.
I lived in the Sierra for many years and drove a 92 Extracab 4x4, I never really noticed but at the end with no mud flaps, I had stripped the paint to primer behind the wheels. All from CalTrans using the volcanic sand as grip during the snow months. That stuff is Brutal.
