Let's be real. You're next mod should be either a crawl box or a 4 speed Atlas. You'd be almost unstoppable out on the rocks.

My only word of advice is that the crawl boxes are made for the toyota mini trucks, while the Atlas T-cases are built for the 16,000 pound military Humvees. Atlas is stronger, but the crawl boxes are cheaper. Choose your poison.

No. The crawl box is a reduction unit that bolts between transmission and transfer case. An Atlas replaces your existing transfer case. Both have adapters to fit properly, but as far as I'm aware, they don't work together.

Oh. Heard awesome things about an atlas.

So what do these normally run? Crawl box is like 600ish right?

Try $2000. For an Atlas, double that.

    Wrecked!
3/16will survive the rubicon. Just take it slow. No hard drops..
I have seen crawl boxes for 1600 on cl and atlases for as low 1900 on cl
And i think cory ment thry replace or add on to your t-case not replace transmission

I'm factoring in tax/shipping. Craigslist is a whole different animal. I've seen some stupid low deals on there. Brand new 4 speed Atlas's are about $4000 though.

    Definitely meant transfer case.

Yea, buy junk yard axles for $3000 and then pour $7000 in parts into them.

Idk. If he wants tons, I've seen super 60s on CL for 750, rotor to rotor. 14 bolts can be had for 300-400. Yes, after you have them you gotta gear em, lock em, and bearings are a good idea, but after you spend 3-4k, you should have some pretty solid axles.

Now Kingpins would be a different story. Much more expensive...

I talked to a local junk yard about getting axles out of a '78 E350 and I was quoted $1500 both a D60 Kingpin and 14bolt. WFO Concepts also sells 14bolts and D60 Kingpins, but they're charging the same price last time I checked.

Also upgrades are going to be pricey. You're looking at $4000 just for ARB air lockers and gears, and then you through in some chromoly axle shafts front and rear, new knuckles, hubs, brakes, etc. and you're easily looking at $7000.

And what you're talking about are the compromises I'm willing to make. As much as i like kingpins, when i put tons under the jeep, it will be a super 60, not a kingpin. Too expensive. Same for ARBs. I love em, but my front will have a spool. I just will use the original hub locks instead of drive flanges so i can disengage when off the trail. Haven't decided on a locker for the rear. Probably a ratcheting or Detroit. Theyre just sketchy when cornering on pavement lol. As far as chromolies go, stub shafts yes, the actual axle shaft is overkill IMO. A couple buddies of mine run 43s on factory axle shafts and one tore his turbo 400 housing in half before breaking an axle shaft. it really depends on if you are planning on building a crawler or an ultra 4 rock racer/bouncer. I want to build a crawler with coilovers and bypasses so i might be able to play with it in the sand and desert too

Shouldn't have to upgrade the brakes, knuckles,or hubs on a super 60 unless you're going rock racing or putting the axles under a heavy ass vehicle.

Yep. There's definitely a difference in build ethics and vision. Suspension-wise, we're not far off. I'm thinking 3 link front and trailing arms 4 link rear with bypasses and coil overs at all 4 corners. Plus and LS sounds like fun
