Yeah if I had them when I was doing the initial install I would have installed them. I haven't had the motivation to take apart the rear end to install them seeing as how I have had no issues with my tires rubbing the fenders. I bought mine from a local TW member so I'm not sure where to find them. I imagine Wheelers Offroad would sell them though.

No problem. Good luck with your install. You will love the difference in ride and stance.

this thread SLAPS, cool truck. I just got mine last year and i'm in the market for new wheels and tires but am unsure what to get. I'd like to get an ome lift in the near future and after market bumpers. but to keep it safe I think i'm going to get 16'' wheels with 265/75/R16 tires.

Thanks man. Took me a while to figure out the tire/wheel combo as well. I like what I ended up with though. I started with 265/75/16 but they looked funny after I lifted so that’s why I went to 285 instead.

so the black wheels in your photo are 16''? I cant afford a lift, tires and wheels right now so i'll probably go with the 265/75/R16 tire on an aftermarket 16'' wheel. I read somewhere in your post people mentioning rubbing with 265/75 and rubbing with any kind of after market wheels.

Yeah they are procomp 7069 16” with I think 4.5” backspacing. They rub a little with my bigger tires at full lock and more when flexed but hardly rubbed on the 265/75/16s after trimming a little plastic from the fender liner.

A dremel with a cutoff wheel makes quick work of trimming the plastic liner.

The 265/75 tires rubbed the front and back of the liner but not the bumper itself.

My biggest rubbing issue now is the passenger front tire hitting my washer fluid reservoir at full lock. There is a mod to relocate it but I will wait until the stock one breaks.

did you have to trim down the actual fender or just the plastic lining in the wheel well.

For 265/75 I just trimmed the plastic liner.

For my 285/75 I had to grind/hammer the pinch weld behind the liner down.

Just had my valve cover gaskets and a few other things changed while they had it apart. I’ve been tightening those bolts for years but it finally got to the point I was losing enough oil to notice on the dipstick. I figured it was time.

They also said my passenger inner and outer tie rod ends were super loose but i didn’t have them do that. I bought inner/outer ends for both sides for less than what they quoted me in parts to do one side. Hopefully I’ll tackle that job next weekend and get an a much needed alignment.

I’ve also got some leaky seals in the front and rear diff as well as a bad carrier bearing. This is going to be an expensive spring for me....

Replaced my tie rod ends over the weekend. Was pretty simple but got hung up for a while trying to break the driver side inner off for way too long. Whoever replaced it last used red locktite and it would not budge. Passenger side had no thread locker and came out easy. Got an alignment and it seems to drive nice and straight now.

Next order of business is the passenger side CV axle. Inner boot is ripped in half :/

Sold my RTT yesterday. It was bittersweet but I found myself using my regular ground tents more and more. this summer I only used the RTT on two different weekends. I got tired of packing it up every morning before going out fishing for the day.

Now I can also mount my rod vault full time for my fly rods

Oh, also just noticed my other CV boot has ripped so that’s neat. Gotta do that side a few months after doing the other one

I bought some used studded tires/steel wheels from a coworker a few weeks ago. After installing them I noticed my wheel studs were way too short so I had to swap them with extended studs. Not too difficult of a job at all.

So I’ve had a strange noise since I rebuilt the front end last summer. I’m not sure if I caused it due to the work or if I was just listening extra close to make sure I didn’t screw up. It started off as a hardly noticeable squeak/metal pinging noise that would go away when braking. I could only hear it with the driver side window down and if I was driving next to a building so the noise echoed off of it.

It’s now progressed to a much louder noise I can hear with the windows up too. It takes a few minutes of driving to happen so I’m assuming something heating up is causing metal to expand just enough to make the noise.
I’ve had it at a shop twice and they said my driver side brake pads stick out slightly farther than the rotors and had a lip on them. They sanded it down and “lubed” some stuff and it went away for about a week before coming back.

I’ve searched all over the internet for this issue and came across a few posts from some 4runners that had to replace calipers to fix the issue so I hope that’s not the problem. I have new rotors and pads on the way to hopefully fix the problem but I’m not confident that’s going to do it.

suggestions are welcome if anyone is still following this graveyard of a build page!

The only issue I had was a caliper got stuck and was grinding one pad more than the other but that’s not your issue obviously.

Wheel bearings good? Nothing interfering with the tire? Rotors in good shape?
