Looking to buy a silencer online. Found a good price, dealt with the business before so I'm confident there. My questions what are the steps? I know the FFL I want to send it to but a little cloudy on who does the paperwork and such. The online retailer does not provide the tax stamp at purchase so at what point to I get that? Any help is appreciated.

The shop selling it to you will ship it to your local dealer

You should do the paperwork there and then wait for the approval...they'll usually have a process or appointment system for you to come in to complete it once they receive the suppressor

Ok, so just like buying any other serialized part for the initial purchase. I'd like to eform this but sounds like I need to make contact with the ffl to see how they want to proceed. So my form 4 and tax stamp paper work would have to be after the ffl has received the silencer?

If your local shop isn't doing e forms I'd be surprised

Form 4 is the tax stamp paperwork but has to be completed after the suppressor is in the shops hands for serial number to be on the paperwork

Ah, so the silencer is shipped to the ffl and stays with them until the approval. That part didn't click until now.
I'm sure they are but I guess I'm more curious about the fingerprinting aspect. I'd like to keep it all electronic for future needs but don't really understand the eft part.

It gets Form 3'd to your local dealer and then your local dealer will do the form 4.

If you buy something they will tell you what to do.

You will do all the paperwork for a silencer after you bought it and had it sent to FFL. And then wait for 6-9 months while the paperwork is processed. If you find an FFL at a gun range you may be able to convince them to let you use your silencer before the tax stamp is processed. Otherwise it’s just a waiting game.

I had gone through this with a few local FFL, you want to find someone that knows what they're doing.

Or make it easy, silencer shop, or capital armory makes it seamless with their fingerprinting and eform. Also capital armory can send directly to your home after you clear the ATF check, but it dependson the state you live in. Currently I'm month 5 waiting on a eform so don't expect it to be very fast.
