If you find yourself buying outside of a Toyota dealership, don't opt for the warranty if it's through Fidelity. Research them on Google and BBB. Not good. Basically they have a clause stating repairs occuring after 50k are usually due to normal wear and tear (spring TSB to be exact) and they will not cover it. Why sell me a 72k plan then. Tried to get them to perform the maintenance twice and denied. I told them the price I purchased the Platinum coverage for is over the price to fix my truck so do it. I thanked them for wasting my f*cking money. Terrible customer service as well, guess they're used to it. Do yourself a favor and research. It was my first time buying at a dealer and had no one to show me the ropes. Hind sight is 20/20. Hopefully no one else will get the shaft as they seem to cover a lot of Toyotas and the whole Eastern Seaboard. Mods if you want to move this to East Coast feel free.

I think there was a 20/20 on this or dateline. That said that it was basically a scam run by a huge company.

Another good one if you have kids when a telemarketer calls.

    1. get your kids to come up and start screaming
    2. simultaneously you beat the table and yell at the kids while asking the telemarketer to hold on.

on the other end it sounds like a household full of domestic abuse and abused children haha reeally flips the telemarketer out

I suspect extended warranties are inherently scammy. There's a reason the stealerships push them, and it's not customer satisfaction.

My cousin used to be a decent guy, but last time I talked to him he was involved in some ext. warranty crap from factory dealers, and it was just scandalous. He bragged about how he hoses customers to line his pockets. He bragged about how he trains the stealers to fleece customers when he is not there.

It was deeply disturbing. One representative quote to help you get the flavor: "It's their fault if they don't notice I changed the numbers." I don't associate with him anymore. He has fallen into criminal behavior as far as I'm concerned.

I've never seen the need to buy one. I've always felt like they were a scam and I've never really known anyone that actually got a major repair covered with one.

Ya i bought the AUL extended from my dealer because i was told that it would cover the lift on the truck. Wrong. I broke the front crossmember on a trip to hollister, took it to the dealership, just kidding, that clause means that they wont deny a claim for the lift being on the truck. Opposite of what i was told at time of purchase. So i basically said F you guys and they gave me my money back. It was a 200 dollar part. They kept asking what they had to do to get me to keep the plan. hmm pretty simple in my mind, lose a customer vs. spend the 200 on the part and make the situation right. No brainer to me but oh well. I got the 1200 back and fixed my truck myself.

Yeah I heard some horror stories about Fidelity. What's crazy is that the Southeast Toyota conglomerate that operates basically in GA, FL, AL, well you get it the Southeast, pushes Fidelity warranties on customers instead of the Toyota Warranty. Fidelity even uses the same terminology like "Platinum" and "Gold" coverage to make it look very close.

I was talked into buying one of these, but luckily got some info from TW on about the guys in Massachusetts and Connecticut selling the Toyota warranties for under $1000. I canceled mine inside of 60 days for a full refund. Had I not found the thread on the less expensive warranties I wouldn't have checked into mine or Fidelity.

Good luck with getting yours straightened out.

    Pure snake oil.....

If you do the math, odds are you will NEVER use the warranty. And that is exactly what the seller of the warranty is hoping for.

SCAM, run from extended warranties. JMHO.:D

Exactly...same with extended warranties on anything.

I will never and have never bought an extended warranty. Especially driving a japanese vehicle which need very little work.

If for some crazy reason I decided to buy an american vehicle..I would probably buy one because I know for sure it would break....but I will never buy an american vehicle so that wouldnt happen.
