There is 0 chance that the Colorado will ever be a more popular truck. Even with some minor issues. We tend to pay more attention to the problems because we own them, but pay attention to Colorado forums and you will see hundreds and even thousands of problems with that truck. This was a dealer issue. For the record, my truck was in the shop 3 weeks for an electrical issue. It won't and shouldn't steer me away. Grass isn't always greener.

Wow; that is the kind of games MANY Toyota dealerships played and still play in the DFW Area (Texas).

Because of this kind of nonsense, I have bought anything else BUT TOYOTA in the last 15 years.

I tried to buy my wife a RAV 4 years ago at 4 different dealerships; and every dealership was at LEAST 5K over MSRP with NO EXTRA OPTIONS.

A friend who is extremely hard to satisfy salesman wise; gave me a referral to where he bought his car last September; and I went there and got my Taco.

I paid MSRP as the 2016 Taco had ONLY been out a few weeks and because I needed the TACO right away as both of my other vehicles were down,

but I am thoroughly happy with "Rockwall Toyota"

This 3rd Gen forum is worse than a Dodge and Chevy forum combined. I didn't like the new '16 engine anyways, but outside of that I'm glad I didn't get a 16. So many issues it makes my head spin.
I really think Toyota hurt themselves with this truck and the fan boy following may be the only thing that saves it. Only time will tell.
    Just my opinion.

I have had NO PROBLEMS with mine since day 1 (8400 miles). Also I think someone posted elsewhere on the forum how many TACOMAS had been built and the percentage of how many had problems.

I think the percentages that have problems have been in the low single digit percentages.

Most people on these forums post their problems and grievances; the people who are happy and content enjoy their Taco and may NOT spend time on forums.

I am on the forum for advice and great ideas how to build mine out better and enjoy it; so thank you to everyone for your great contributions! Greatly Appreciated.

I had a similar experience, but not quite the same. I had been communicating online with the dealership I've bought my last 3 cars from. Same salesman, always struck me as honest and really does his homework on every vehicle they have on the lot. Honestly if I have a question about my truck I always try to speak to him first, as he is more likely to have an answer than the shop tech. Point is, I think it was an honest mistake.

Well anyway, he pulls the truck to the side for me the day I come for a test drive. We take it out, get back, and we start talking numbers, then the sales manager comes over and says he sold the truck already...while we were negotiating. He doesn't even apologize. Of course I'm pretty pissed, and so is my dealer. He looks at me and says "Man, I'm sorry, he's new. And an a**hole." I almost walked away, but they made up for it by knocking the price of the truck down quite a bit and ordering me a new one.

It took about a month to get my truck. The holidays seemed to delay it a bit. But I'll be damned if while we weren't trying to do the paperwork on the truck that shady-a** shop manager didn't come out asking about "if that guy actually came to pick up the new Off Road, yet." Fifteen minutes later when I'm adding the truck to my insurance another salesman comes up with a couple and starts trying to sell em my truck. I came around the back of the truck to tell him it's sold and he goes "already?!" and tells the couple "See? We didn't have that truck on the lot for 8 hours and somebody already bought it." I was flabbergasted. Nobody appeared to communicate in that place and it likely could have been another mistake. I imagine there's a lot of competition in dealerships and salesmen probably won't hesitate to steal a sell.

people hate to hear this, (truth hurts I guess) but there are just as many "problems" with the Tacoma as there has been the with the Twins. Final 2015 sale numbers looked great for the twins as well. They were not far behind Tacoma at all.

OP Sorry to hear about this situation. I would definitely get my deposit back and look elsewhere. I was just at the dealer the other day for my 10k maintenance on my 15 and I had a chance to look at the new 16. They had quite a few of them on the lot and wow they look fancy. The funny thing was I saw that they now park the Tundras on the opposite end of the lot and it really did not make sense until I saw the sticker price on the 16 Tacoma. Many were the exact same price and some even more expensive than the full size Tundras on the lot. Anyways, I hope all works out for you... Good luck...

Do you need to know, or care?
So let me get this straight OP...you write a deal, sign the papers, and get a delivery date. Truck comes in and they sell it to someone who is willing to pay more than you??? Dealer's a scumbag. Call Toyota and raise hell. For me, I've got a dealer who owns a few lots selling different makes, Toyota, Mazda, Ford, Nissan, and KIA. Between my wife and I, we've bought 6 vehicles from Toyota and Mazda, never had an issue and they are straight up honest and have excellent customer service. Took 2 weeks for them to get the truck I wanted, but could have been luck, I suppose.

My taco is my 1st Toyota, otherwise been in the Honda world for decades. I can tell you several local Honda dealers by us have let us down (one of which I sued due to damage they caused to my S2000 while in for tires) as well as their "premium" Acura brand. Corporate Honda, just like in this thread with Toyota, could care less. For this reason none of our cars / motorcycles go anywhere for service other than by myself.

End of day, find a dealer that at least tries to be reputable. Most of them suck and have no problems with poor integrity, trust, or ripping you off. And the motherships don't really help.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
    Good luck OP.

That's horrible customer service from the dealership, and more so the manager.

A phone call is one thing, you would be surprised how much attention a written letter sent fedex or certified mail gets. Nobody really gets written complaints anymore so people tend to pay attention to them when they show up.

Yeah this might seem silly to some, but really, honestly, a lot businesses track their reviews. I've had businesses call me to see what they can do to get a yelp review changed. I've also been given freebies/better treatment after business notice that I wrote them a positive review in the past.

*edit* honestly after reading their response, I'd pretty much do anything I could to damage their reputation. Call Corporate. Send a certified letter. Better Business Bureau. Google review. Yelp review. Hell I'd probably even record/document another conversation trying to bait them into restating why they treated you that way and then put that crap on youtube.

    But I'm childish.

If this is the case, I would look through the paperwork and see if there were any clauses that allow the dealer to sell the exact vin truck that was meant for you. If not and you really want to get after them, possibly get a lawyer involved for breach of contract.

I would contact corporate and tell them your situation...they may be able to help in terms of finding the exact same truck somewhere in the country and having it delivered to a dealer near you and even include a discount.

Hundreds or thousands? Really? I do pay attention to coloradofans.com and the 3rd gen tacoma issues are VERY similar to what has been experienced on the new twins, and it is nowhere near the amount you are indicating.

    Thousands @TruckFan09

    Thousands.

But since we're making this a debate over Colorado vs Taco I have two immutable arguments:
    1: resale value
2: I don't want one and you can't make me.
