Well you basicly said that my states not worth living in just because it requires two plates, talk about logic.

Ya I know the big bad wolf is always imposing on us. You don't like two plates don't drive. It's very different than slapping a ID badge clearly visible to others. How ever there are many companies that do require this, again don't like if get out.

I honestly don't want the government in my business, hate all the requirements they put in place, most because people are dumb, but there is a need for somethings. I think this one is better than not.

Just to let you know, depending on what region you you buy your Tacoma, the holes may already be drilled out at Port (before they arrive at dealership). So the dealership will have no control over this during PDI. I believe the NW Region (Oregon/Washington) is one of the regions that have the holes drilled at port (not sure, maybe someone can confirm this). I live in CA and this state requires front plates, but if you order, you can let them know not to drill at the dealership.

I did not want holes drilled in mine as I fabbed my own holder but my truck was a dealer trade and the other dealership already drilled holes.

I live in Canada. But I already asked my Service Manager and he says they come separate on the PDI, not pre-drilled. I don't like where the front plate sits, but I also dont know where to put it

    What province are you in?
Just wondering what province doesn't have front plate as well. Only one I ever knew of was Quebec, always thought every other province needed front and rear.

Anyone on here who's from California and does not have a front license plate ever run into problems?

Really want to remove my from license plate but California is pretty strict with it. I see a lot of cars daily with no front plates but not sure how long they can get away with it, or if it's in certain places where cops just don't care.

    Thanks for the map-- interesting!
Here in Mo the prison inmates make the plates. Those states that do not require 2 could have more for the prisoners to do if they would require 2 plates!

    all tore up already
know for a fact in MA you can run only rear plate if you have the grandfathered old green plate. in NH it is required for eevry vehicle to run 2 plates with only one exception ive ever seen when my town was celebrating their 300th anniversary you could run a commemorative plate in the front which i thought was whack and likely not state approved. as much as i hate a front plate, i hate getting pulled over to be checked out more.

I work in the emergency department and see car accidents multiple times daily. Every day. Every shift. A lot of the injuries I see are someone else's fault. Let that soak in. So having two license plates gives those guys twice the opportunity to catch the person at fault. Seeing the vehicle coming and going. I'd personally rather see a license plate on the front and back of every car on a public roadway. Just like I'd prefer that all drivers have insurance! Sometimes laws aren't necessarily intended for you, but they help you out all the same.
But I do think that Toyota could have come up with something a little more inconspicuous than the big plastic box on the front of my bumper...

After working for the largest law enforcement agency in the state, here is a truth: Whether or not you are stopped for not having plates is dependent on the cop, the situation and the time of day. Example: you are driving down the road -say about noon --no problems, no other violations -cop sees -no front plate. He/she says all ok -"too much paperwork" lets you you go on your merry way. Next scene- It is 12:30 am --same place --cop sees you no front plate-- you may have had one or two beers/or maybe none --not good but you would probably would pass a sobriety test. You slightly go over the line while adjusting your hard to control "Toyota radio" Cop now has probable cause to pull you over. Maybe you have done no wrong but they can "legally" pull you over-- all because you "don't like" front plates!

P.S. I am not, and never was a cop-- I just worked with/for them for 15 years till I retired. Had a lot of interesting discussion with them while I was working on their computer stuff

I got mine in Washington and requested no holes drilled. It came with tape on the bumper that had "do not drill" written on it. My sales guy was awesome; ordered the exact truck I wanted, didn't have anything I didn't want, and didn't drill the bumper.

    Map leaves out one exception...

NV only requires front plate if there are already holes drilled for it. So if dealer doesn't drill out the holes you don't need to mount the front plate. Unmounted front plate does need to be carried in vehicle though. Was glad helpful lady at DMV told me this. Looked it up in vehicle code to verify.
