I took the inductuion sytem apart today to learn what it was. I was surprised to find that filter after the stock cotton filter and before the MAF screen. Does it have any purpose other than another filtering of the air? I thought maybe to smooth out the air for the sensors but that is what the MAF screen was for. BTW, do folks take out the MAF screen? We did on the LS1 engine to squeak out as much power as possible.

I took things apart because someone wrote in this forum that the stock system was a CAI system. After taking it apart I would agree. I would add that it is highly restrictive and not getting the best cold air but neither are the CAI kits from TRD or K&N althought the TRD with it enclosure I say it better.

I am thinking I need to make that scoop functional as that would help things. Of course, I need to make sure that with the bug deflector that came on my truck it would still produce good air flow.

Now that I have had time to think about it I wonder if it has to do with keeping water out too. Something I had not thought of that could happen with a truck.
