Got an AFE dry filter. I want to make sure the previous owner didn't install the K&N wrong.

You see the "thinner" side? Does that face the engine or intake tube?

I tried both directions and it fits both ways. I also dont see any airflow arrows like cabin filters, so not 100% sure.

When I removed my old filter, it was the "A" diagram. Rich is stating to go with "B"..... I saw a post with an old K&N filter and looking at how dirty one side is, it appears they always installed it like "A" diagram...... So like wtf. Ignore how the filter tapers in the diagram. It's obvious that which end goes to which end. It's just the orientation of the face of the filter that I'm concerned about. Just couldn't find the proper image.

I just finished installing a K&N drop in, and the way it is pictured is the way it goes in...

Mine(2012 4 banger) only goes in one way so, watch for that...

Paper filters filter better than those.

The way the image is oriented, airflow moves top-down, so the "bottom" of the picture goes toward the engine.

On the 2.7, the filter goes in exactly as shown.
On the 4.0, the top of the image goes toward the passenger fender.

And +1... those filters are shit.

Seriously. OEM filter is $15. They are changed every 30,000 miles.
Is $45 every 100,000 miles too much to ask for a better filter?

    Yep

It's a trapezoidal shape so it will only fit one way. The small end has a 90 degree angle and an obtuse angle, whereas the large end has a 90 degree and an acute angle.

Flat side faces the engine, "smaller" inlet part faces the intake tubing.

And I can't say enough about my AFE. Paper filter SUCKS if you wheel a lot. If I still had the paper one, I'd be replacing it once a month with the amount of dust that gets in there.

AFE is super easy to clean. Just dunk and swish in soapy water, rinse, let it dry, and re-install.

Is the frame on the stock filter rigid? The AFE is soft, so I think that's why I can fit it in either direction.

As stated in my original post, ignore the tapered and wide ends. It's obvious which end is which. It's just which face is which I'm having issues with. Sounds like "The Traveler" is confirming it is "A". Which is the way I currently have it set up at the moment.

Based on the size of the engine in this diagram it is for a 3.7L engine.

So.... basically this is all wrong.
