Thanks guys. I love the looks of the sport, so yes that’s an important thing and the sr5 doenst have those looks. I also like a stiffer rode and tighter cornering. Also one poster said you can’t upgrade a sport to OR goodies, but you can buy an aftermarket locker so I think you pretty much can? (Unless I’m missing something). Not sure why I’d miss the off road features if I never plan on going off road much?

Sport: The obvious visual differences, handles incredibly with the sport suspension (though some find it too firm for them).

OR: Has additional features like crawl control, more off-road capable (which it sounds like you may not use), doesn't handle as well on the road (but the ride is apparently much softer).

Bottom line, the OR is a better value, period. The question is, does the added value in features you may not use outweigh what the sport offers?

    How is a TRD 4x4 Sport MT base model 6-8k more than a 4x4 sr5? I don’t think that’s accurate

Was just looking high-level on the website:

    Screen Shot 2018-03-02 at 9.58.49 AM.jpg

    SR5 $27k - $28K
    Sport $32k - $36k
    Off-Road $33k - $36k

    Range: $5k to $9k

This is what I'm struggling with. Whats the logic here? Buy an OR model and never off road.

Edit. I made the sr5 a DCSB and in auto it is 34,3... when the sport in the same is 36,1. So a 17-1800 difference.

True, you can get the 4 cylinder on the access cab configuration. You'd have to build each personally to get the real numbers. Something to consider though maybe.

The point we're missing is that I like the looks of the sport and would pay more for it. Not 5-6k more but about 1800? sure.

Another question I have is do the OR guys on here actually OR? I just really don't see myself doing much of it and I hear the sport is still plenty capable off road. Its a 4x4 and still meant for it, right?

Just struggling with looks vs utility and off road usage, I guess. If the sport sucked in anything off road and was PURE looks then it would be a different story.

What did you think of the ride when you test drove both models? We have alot of rough roads and potholes here because of snow and ice, the Off Road feels better to me on these conditions.

I liked the street ride of the sport. Bumpy? the off road.

Offroad all day. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

There is your answer. Get something you like. If the hood scoop speaks to you, get it. The Sport is plenty capable off-road. It's got an excellent 4WD system. No, it doesn't have Crawl Control, but IF you decide to get into wheeling, just add ARB lockers F/R, which beats the pants off of crawl control, IMO.

If you prefer the looks of the sport, and aren't going to OR, then I personally would go with the Sport. The added bang for the buck of the OR only matters if you're going to use it.

I would still test both though (if you haven't), as they drive differently. The Sport is stiff but handles incredibly. The off-road is much softer, but likely won't handle quite as well on the road.

Buy one of each and be covered. After 4 or 5 of these threads, i'm sure nothing new can be added to the conversation that is going to sway OP.

Oh, and also buy an SR to be baller.

I was in the same boat recently... wife wanted blind spot monitoring so it was either Sport or OR. Truly an SR5 would have been sufficient if not for that one feature. The only thing I hate more than hood scoops is fake hood scoops, but the better MPG of the Sport sounded good.

I got an OR because you get more for your money with the locker and other features. Also, softer suspension will soak up bumps better so the OR is better on road in my opinion, at least here in Texas where the highways are concrete and the expansion joints are killer with stiff suspension. Either way the gas mileage sucks (it's a truck) so that wasn't too big of a consideration.

Buy an OR and just buy the sport hood, get it color matched. If you are willing to pay more for a sport for the look, why not pay less overall and get both look and utility.
