Hundreds of threads of broken down trucks, bad service experiences, techs that don't know what they're doing... here's one that actually was pretty awesome...

Took my pickup in for it's 20K service to Hendrick Toyota in Merriam Kansas (Kansas City Metropolitan area). As I pull into the bay, a rep comes over to greet me and I tell him what I'm there for. A service tech walking through the bay says "he's got something wrong. It sounds funny." Truck sounds fine to me, but the rep asks if I'd mind them looking at it. I say go ahead.

40 minutes later, oil change done, tires rotated, and the discovery of my high-pressure fuel pump needing replaced. They say the pump will take 4 days to come in, so just bring it back and they'll give me a rental. I tell them "I live by Wichita and I'm going to Branson next week, so I don't want to put a bunch of miles on a rental." Rep says "that's what rentals are for!"

So in a few days, new fuel pump and rental covered under warranty, all because some service tech walking by was on his game.

    Pretty cool deal!

So far, I've had similar positive experiences with Shelor Toyota in VA. Besides the Tacoma, I have a 16 Avalon and they have taken good care of that car too.

It's making a high-pitched chirping noise. Bad bearing? Don't know enough about it to figure out what the problem is and honestly I was too taken back by the whole thing to ask.

Honestly, the whole reason I drive to Kansas City is because the two dealers in the Wichita area are pretty shady.

The Crickets sound, my truck does that too, sounds like you have a good Dealer cause some won't swap the pump out.

Same experience here. Took my truck in for transmission level check to be on the safe side and I told them to physically check it - not just use the techstream. I also put a paint stripe on the overflow plug to make sure. Picked it up the next day where they said they checked it, added some fluid and that it was covered under warranty. The paint stripe had been broken as well.

I was just amazed that a guy walking by was like "hey that's wrong." He thought it was a belt issue. Would have been very easy for him to ignore it and make it someone else's problem.

...^^^... I really can appreciate good dealer service.

I found one dealer in my life that give me "constant excellent dealer service" and it was Gwinnett Place Honda.

I have owned many Toyotas and believe Toyota's are the best vehicle for the money ... but most other Toyota dealers in my area are just OK.

I'd take I-70... less truck traffic!
