First off I have zero financial interest in this company BUT I think it's a freaking amazing idea especially for a Tacoma with a limited payload.

    www.thaircamper.com

Basically a full truck camper made from drop stitch material that comes in and out of your truck in minutes and weighs very little since it's inflatable.

I found this camper while looking for a lightweight camper for my Ford Lightning and by a strange twist of fate the owner has a cottage about 15 miles from me. After contacting him and getting to see the prototype I fell in love with the idea and tbh I am shocked it hasn't existed before.

Some of you may know Flated, maker of drop stitch caps that are tough as nails and super light. Well this is the next logical progression. A full slide in truck camper that won't weigh you down.

I spoke to the owner, Parr several times now to try and pry information out of him but he doesn't have the actual specs on the "slim" camper yet for midsized trucks but the full size version I ordered for my Lightning weighs 180lbs.

In person this camper couldn't be more solid when inflated properly and the air acts as insulation for hot and cold.

My use case is that I am looking for a cold weather camper for steelhead fishing all winter long using my Lightning that has limited payload.

I will update this thread when I find out more information on the smaller model but for now it's worth checking out. For less than $2K for an actual truck camper (shell only obviously) it's a heck of a bargain in my mind.

If anyone has questions I can try and reach out to the owner but at this point he told me it would be several weeks before he had the dimensions and weights for the Tacoma sized model.

I do have some experience with Tacoma's and truck campers, which is why I thought about posting on here. I had one of the very first Go Fast Campers (yes the ones the doors fell off of, mine was number 41) as well as the AluCab Khaya shown in my profile pic, the GFC was pretty light but with the Decked drawers I had and full camping gear it still required HD rear spring, and the Khaya needed Bags as well.

When I sold my Tacoma with the Khaya installed I moved to an F350 Tremor on 37's and a Supertramp camper specifically because I was tired of watching weight and payload. The ThAir Camper would have solved these issues however probably wouldn't have been as comfortable as the Khaya.

a few pics of past and present campers because pictures always make posts more fun

Neat concept. Their website does leave me w more questions.

a video of them inflating one would be beneficial. :). I couldn’t find one. I bailed fairly quickly tho.

your new truck is awesome!!! What an upgrade w respect to space and payload!!

So the old website he had showed an animation of the inflation (at high speed). Basically it’s got 7 air chambers and inflates exactly like a paddle board. Same fitting same pumps.

He told me it inflates in about 15-20 mins and is ready to go. You can slide it off alone and put it back on alone very easily but if you want to deflate it and pack it up that is much more time consuming.

When I stopped by to see it he had the camper in a garage bay and just popped it on his truck it was really neat. My thoughts are it would be super easy to use on a weekend and remove for work all week but it would be better to leave it inflated.

As far as the big truck…. Yes it’s amazing! 2023 F350 Tremor. Fits 37’s with no lift or mods and comes factory with 7.3L big block, 4.30 gears, all the electrical Offroad goodies you could want and a payload of, get this, 4214lbs in my particular configuration.

I added Logiq air bags and a compressor so I can level the truck almost anywhere while camping with just the push of a button. I absolutely love my new setup. I never thought I would stray from Toyota but I have zero regrets.

I just bought my first Tacoma a couple weeks ago and wanted a camper for trips but not all the time. I bought the Flated mid rise and it has met and exceeded all expectations. Drove from San Antonio to Denver without a single issue. Not nearly as complex as yours but if you’re looking for a part time camper I can’t recommend enough. We’ll see the durability over time.

so tbh I think I’ve watched every YouTube video ever made on Flated and was just hesitant to pull the trigger because I’d still need a bed rug and the bed really isn’t insulated for winter camping (my specific use case).

I think they’re great and the more things like this the better. I think I mentioned it before but when I found this new camper I was shocked it hadn’t existed before. I remember seeing the first inflatable paddleboard and thinking it was kind of dumb now they’re kind of the standard choice. Flated makes some really cool roof top boxes that to me are brilliant. Everyone needs one of those things like a week a year but who the hell wants to store it the rest of the time.

Flated and the new ThAirCamper also have the HUGE advantage of being LIGHT! I winter what’s next for this genre of things?

I like the look of the Flated. To each there own on looks. It’s really nice only 6 straps to install, and with the Costco battery airpump it takes about 20 minutes from in a backpack in the garage to on the truck. 30 minutes to put away for folding time, haha.

The air camper looks like a cool idea.

But for a normal topper why not soft topper over a flated?

Takes up about 3.5’x2’x2’ of garage space when not in use which will be about 80% of the time. And no tools or anything special to put it on and once it’s on you can walk on it(I’m 250lbs), shake the whole truck with it. It’s sturdy.

So I can’t speak for everyone but I had a Softtopper on a Ram Power Wagon about 12 years ago and found it very practical. What lead me to look into Flated, before finding the full camper was the insulation properties it offered. The truck bed is still an issue but any of these drop stitch items are very warm in cold weather.

Interesting concept, can't wait to hear how the air camper does in the cold.

Agreed I’m interested too. The owner of the company told me he tested it down to real NY winter temps and it worked incredibly well.

having camped in many styles of campers before I am sure this will be much more insulated than anything made from metal.

He doesn’t have the Taco sized camper on market yet but when he does it’ll certainly be worth looking at. If you’re in CNY you can probably set up a time to see one since he’s just a little east of Rochester.

I think the midsized camper is going to be a real game changer if he can keep the weight sub 200lbs.

Thanks for the heads-up. I am indeed just down the road so I might just have to reach out to him.
