    Hey y'all..

I have wanted a Toyota pick up since high school and i finally bought one 2 weeks ago. I know, I know... why did i wait so dang long... my bad!!!

Well i have a question about a ticking noise i hear from the engine. On my old trucks i would say it was a lifter tapping. I don't want to worry about something i shouldn't be worrying about but if it needs attention i want it fixed. What could/should it be?

Also, I want to improve fuel mileage. What is best recommendation for that?

Thanks y'all and I look forward to learning a lot about my new ride!!!

    Welcome!
The ticking is normal all our trucks do it.
As for mileage, not much there is you can do. Keep tires aired up, synthetic fluids, filter, and drive like there is an egg on the gas pedal.

    Getting there...
Ticking is normal on these trucks. There have been some threads about reducing it, but it's not really an issue. As for gas mileage, I'm assuming you have the V6. Like Oowen said, keep tires aired up, general maintenance, and drive easy. The sweet spot for these engines for fuel efficiency is <2000 rpm. When I drive it easy, I think I've actually gotten 23ish. Otherwise it ranges from 18-20. Bigger tires will also drive your economy down.
