So I bought my 17th Toyota 4x4 last winter. A used 2017 DCLB TRD off road. Loved it. Towed with it a few times.... Awful. I test drove a manual DCSB before I bought it (had a modified 5th gen 4Runner at the time) and really didn't care for it. Well last weekend I traded my 17 for a 19 Sport with a manual. Holy hell what a difference! It really does get about 2mpg less on my commute but at least the damn thing isn't downshifting 2 gears constantly. So nice having a manual again. Totally different truck. 885's 5100's and icon 3 leaf AAL and new Methods with 265/75/16's are going on as soon as I have a free day at the shop.

If you think the manual is good from the factory you should do an accumulator delete and engine tune, it makes the truck soooooo much better.
With the accumulator delete you get more precision with the clutch. And the engine tune gives you more power in the lower gears, it vastly improves acceleration and gets rid of most of the engine lag.

Trying to remember ever having an automatic in 60 years of driving! If I did it was one I fixed up a sold or one for the wife until she learned to drive a stick. No accumulator delete (still trying to figure out what you gain it works fine for me just the way it is). Now mind you I only have a 150K on it so is guess I'll leave it just the way it is. Did have a little drag race with a brand new full size GM pickup dead even he couldn't pass me I couldn't pass him so I'm guess I can't improve that much.

Is your truck supercharged? I’ve driven 5.3 and 6.2 GM’s and they’re much quicker than the Tacoma.

I really should try this. I enjoy driving my 2017 MT daily, as it is VERY smooth. Is this hard to do, I suck doing wiring...

The accumulator delete isn't overly hard to do, basically getting under your truck removing the clutch line and installing a new one. Here is the thread about it - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mt-accumulator-delete-mod-adm-and-bs-thread.568303/

And for the engine tune the cheapest, easiest way is to find one of the dealers on the forums here to do it, $400-500. There are multiple different tunes out there now, I have the OV tune.

If you ever try a '23? manual, they are even smoother and with a lighter clutch than the pre 20' tacomas. And almost stall proof.

The only way to make the automatic enjoyable is to tune, and regear. Then the automatic is so much better… but at a cost of an additional $3K plus

I assume you mean the automatic is so much better than the factory set up, even the best automatic is not better than a real manual transmission.
