I would completely disagree, my daily commute is 48 miles via the freeway and stop & go traffic. I can easily say the automatic is much better in this driving situation, I’ve owned both in the Tacoma. I can say my corvette is better with manual for me, as it’s only driven on weekends and never to work.

5% of Tacomas are sold with the manual transmission, the rest of us…lol.

I know what you mean. I hate power windows. I mean damn, I can crank that m'fer like no tomorrow. So what if a motor can get it up faster with the push of a button? I am the man when I can operate a lever. Who needs progress? While you are at it, give me back my cigarette lighter. :D:D:D

Not all manuals are better than their automatic counterparts.... the Subarus I used to own weren't great manuals. Dare I say it, their CVTs were tuned better and in the Outback specifically, the automatic was the way to go. They ended up dropping the manual altogether in the Outback. I owned a 2012 6MT Outback and had a 6AT loaner at one point while it was in the shop, and I was shocked how much I liked it considering I didn't like the manual. It's the reason I ended up in the Tacoma.

But general, sweeping statement - yeah stick shifters are more fun and better than automatics. These days if I'm not going to be shifting the gears it might as well be electric.

Now you need to delete the power steering add a PTO and install air brakes. Anything else is just a Cadillac by another name.

I think you missed the fact this thread is about Tacomas with Manual Transmissions, so yeah, "the rest of us".

indeed. Much better than factory, quite fun and exhilarating at times.
…“better” is a broad term…all my other vehicles and my other Tacoma was a manual. It’s just “better” to have human control over the transmission in most cases.

Actually he spoke on both, so yeah…panties in a wad much ? It’s just a transmission, don’t get too upset, lol.

I'd vote that manual transmissions are much nicer. Haven't owned one in many years, but every once in a while I still will reach for the shifter knob (and search for the clutch pedal) to downshift my automatic. Old muscle memory...

There is absolutely zero chance anyone would prefer a manual in hours long stop and go traffic. If you do you are either lying to yourself or one of those people that thinks driving a manual makes you more of a man.

I’d rather have a manual but Toyota doesn’t make one in the model I want. But honestly with how much traffic I sit in an auto isn’t bad.

So you take it upon yourself to look into my mind and understand me? Geez, what are you, God?

Sorry do disappoint you, I've lived in the metropolitan areas of San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, New York, Boston, and Stuttgart, and every time I've been saddled with driving an automatic equipped vehicle, even in traffic, I've hated the experience. So, I dispute your "zero chance", I prefer a manual even in hours long stop and go traffic.

The ever present "driving a manual in traffic" thing...

Having a manual is a commitment, you will shift every day under all conditions, it just becomes something you do, part of a task to accomplish a goal.

That condition accepted I don't feel it becomes a tremendous inconvenience to dwell on either.

I wash my dishes in the sink because I don't have a dishwasher, over many years I have gotten very efficient at washing dishes, it isn't an inconvenience, just a task.

That said, an automatic is far more convenient for plowing snow. ;)

It's different when it is a high performance vehicle, the flapper shifters they put in a lot of new cars aren't as fun.
