Running 4 hours of green, blue and a black trail at Rausch in 2-Lo w/ the locker on... (wasn't on purpose, I just forgot to hit the 4WD button for 4-Lo.)

Basically a locked diff will give you better traction & stability for hill climbs/descents, pulling a boat out of the water, etc. etc. etc.

And 2-Lo is even easier to achieve, no cutting or splicing... just a plug. :D At least on the 1st Gens..

    1) It is helpful if you put '4WD' in your truck info in your sig... I mean how can folks give you the best answer if you don't let us know 2WD or 4WD in your post or in your info blip under your name?

    2) The Grey Wire Mod is only for 1st Gens. (yes I know this is a 1st Gen forum). The second Gen Tacos need to get a relay and is a bit more involved.

I was kind of toying with doing this relay mod to have even more drive mode options (as if 9 wasn't enough)... Then I discovered AUTO LSD is close to the same action as a locker... So, those of you with AUTO LSD in 2WD (and TRAC in 4WD Hi)... don't sweat not having the Grey Wire Mod available!

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
I use it when off roading in 4hi. It was a pain to have to put it in 4lo just to lock up the rear. Its also great fun to drift on dirt tracks with 2wd and locker :).

You can use it to do better in 2wd so that your buddy that has a 2x4 truck can't complain about how often you use 4x4.

Actually I have.... on a driveway with the front tires against the "curb" (rocks)... makes a nice smoke screen.. not so great for the tires and I'm sure it's hell on the rear-end. Only done it the once, just to say I did.. and that was a while back with the old stocker tires. :)

So lock it, he'll complain that he's running open diffs and you're not. You'll never win because his Ford Ranger can't compete. :D

normally that would be the case but he has much more aggressive off-road tires which we both have agreed balance the equation somewhat as they do seem to save him often. 6 cyl Ram 1500 manual actually

i would do it with a curb and not the breaks. sounds bad for the rear drums. unless you get vice grips and crimp off the rear brake line, which someone told me you can do.

Still not a Tacoma. :D Anyway, yes, the tires can save your ass, but he will eventually run into a situation where having the rear locked can get him out where-as an open differential will just throw more mud. :)

I wouldn't crimp anything, even the rubber line... you just risk blowing things.. and if you use a high enough curb, you only need a light touch of brakes to get 'em spinning and keep the front from wanting to jump the curb.
