    Well the 95.5 - 04 are virtually the same except for the front fascia and other small things, but as far as i know they al had the same frame and drivetrain. But i do see what you mean.

    I hate referring to wikipedia but according to it The 95.5-2004 models were classsified as " compact pickup truck" and 2005-current are "mid-size pickup truck".

    yeah i get what you mean. your breakdown of the generations is what I used before started using TW and TTORA, but now i just go by the 1st and 2nd gen deal because thats what the forums use.

    i see it as a change in generations when they completely redesign a vehicle...not when they tweak the way it looks or add an option or 3...

    by this measure...95.5-2004 were essentially the same trucks...with minor design changes and mechanical "tweaks"...for 2005 they completely redesigned the tacoma...and therefore...have a 2nd generation of them
