I have been looking for a Tacoma to use as a third vehicle for the last year or so. Lots of overpriced Junk out there etc...

I live close to a few dealerships and keep my eye on what comes through. A buddy that is a GM of a Toyota dealership said it is rare to get a Tacoma like I was looking for on trade.

I noticed the Ford dealer had a nice Tacoma sitting out bag without tags. Body looked decent. Tiny bit of fender bender damage to the front bumper. Frame looked good too. Figured it was a trade in and asked. It was. I took it for a test drive and it was tight as a drum 2001 with 116K miles. Automatic, extended cab, 4x4, SR5, 2.7 4 cylinder. Mystic Gold exterior, tan interior.

The Sales Manager told me they were getting ready to send it to auction. I have a decent knowledge of the car business and I would save him the hassle. I told him I would give him $6500. Sold! Really surprised that one of the shop guys did not scoop it up.

I have an excellent Toyota mechanic. He gave it the once over and called me. Told me it was a true 1 in 10 truck. He guessed that it had been dealer maintained from day one. All the fluids looked good etc...

I found the previous owner's wallet under the seat. I had the dealership call him. He called me and I returned it to him. He also informed of the truck's history. Said it was his pride and joy. He had all maintenance done by the dealership from day one. All services etc...

    Patience is a virtue...

Thanks. I appreciate it. No need to thank me for doing the right thing. He was convinced he had lost it in Home Depot. He had already replaced everything, so he asked that I destroy it all. I was just glad that he is still with us. I was concerned that maybe his family had traded it in.

Congrats on the new truck! I waited 3 years for the right one to come my way. Mainly because I was broke and couldn't find a nice one for cheap enough :p

you got lucky twice, you got a nice truck AND you got to talk to the original owner so you know the true honest history of the truck and what he did, of didn't do or fix on it
