Curious, what shortcomings are you experiencing with your current axle?

I was thinking about going with a custom diamond axle for my rear. 9.5" center with full float hubs and disk brakes. But I think it'll be cheaper for me to find tons for the front and rear and sell my front diamond axle.

Unless you plan to go big: big tires, SAS, or long travel, big horsepower, etc. your money will be better utilized on a number of things before you need to upgrade your rear axle.

Recommending something will vary depending on your ultimate goal for the truck and what you intend to do with it. There are Toyota options, one tons, hybrid axles, and bigger (Rockwell’s, axletechs) depending on your desired outcome.

Can you clarify what you intend to do?

A friend is doing a corporate 14 bolt currently. He's probably gonna have $2k in it, all his time (a few months of weekends), and maybe a detroit locker or something. That's cheap, and doesn't even include the best options for lockers, and that's junkyard digging too to keep costs down.

I can't see it happening for less than $4k or $5k new parts. If you're paying someone, probably more.

Also consider new u-joints, possible different drive shaft, re-gears (or gear selection), fluids, upgrade axle shafts? (why not!!), upgrade brakes on new axle (hey, might as well go disc, right!?!)...so before someone says "I can do it for $200 in a garage in a weekend." It sounds like this guy can't. And neither can I. Just sharing what I learned the hard way.

I might be wrong since I don’t off-road my taco but...

Can we not get CrMo axles and stuff like most others? If I were GONNA wheel this is truss the top and get some high strength shafts and other parts with a higher yield.

Might be more expensive though hahaha

Ring and pinion typically go before the shafts

I've personally seen this happen 3 times. I will agree with this.

I'm starting to work on this now. I have a late model disc braked 14 bolt. I believe its only about 2" wider than the factory diff, so I'm not gonna mess with that. Plan is to have the hubs redilled to 6x5.5. If I can find a factory rotor that will work, that would be great, otherwise I'll drill the rotors too.

I have an ARB for it on a shelf and mine already has 4.88s. I'll have to have ebrake cables modded to work. Hopefully the MC will move enough volume for the brakes. Otherwise that'll have to go as well. I'm sure Ill lose my ABS, but dont really care on that. I have a driveshaft that should work as well.

I'm robbing most these parts off my SAS project. I'm gonna take it in a new direction in a few years when I have a larger budget. I picked up a set of Axletech 4000 MRAP axles for it.
