Check with car dealers. A truck without a cap will sell faster, and for just about the same money. They remove the caps to detail the trucks before placing them on the lots for sale and often just leave them off. If you ask around you may find some laying around behind the shop cheap.

I’m in Upstate NY, found mine in Vermont. Drove 3.5hrs one way to get it. It’s white, my truck is silver. The original color of the cap was silver lol. Fail, but I needed it for our roadtrip (we were leaving in 2wks and really needed it!)

I’m planning on Plasti-dipping it gunmetal gray to see how it looks, along with my wheels and eventually when I put steel bumpers on the truck they’ll be the same. If I like the look I’ll have it painted.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Exterminating companies (of all places) have caps on their small trucks they sometimes can’t get rid of when they upgrade their vehicles and can be had cheeeeeeep

Yep. There are a half dozen camper shell dealers most of whom sell used shells with an hour of my house in PA. Got to think you have them in CA as well. Don’t know what your budget is but if your looking to find something that fits in the right color for $200, you got a long wait.

Apologies if this has answered, but what color are you looking for? I don’t know what MGM stands for in your post, is that the color?

Ive been negotiating with a guy that was selling his Leer XR seperate from his truck since January and just waiting for the truck to sell...well just today he told me he sold the truck and top together. So I'm looking for the dclb or aclb in super white. There are plenty of 6' white tops around off reg cabs but the cab angles dont match and it would drive me nuts.

MGM is the color. Magnetic Gray Metallic (I think)...it's really dark gray with "shiny specks" in it anyhow lol. That's how I describe mine to anyone but a fellow taco owner, then it's MGM and they know what I'm talking about...outsiders understand "gray with shiny specks in it" better than a color name.

A few mods here and there and counting....
Search every day and often. They go quick. I was on the hunt during the winter for 2 weeks and the first one slipped away in a matter of a few hours. The 2nd one i found, i messaged him and picked it up the next night. I used craigslist, facebook market place, letgo, and offer up. Good luck.

Y’all are gonna hate me when I say this, but I work at a Toyota dealer and we got a Tacoma traded in a few weeks back with a really nice ARE on it that was the same color as my truck.

20 minutes later it was sitting on my truck, all it cost me was the time it took to put on.

Headed out at 7am to pick up a $600 mint cap. Matches the truck as well.

It is super hit and miss. Every Ranger cap I looked at didn’t fit even though the claim it would. The mint ones meant it looked good when they bought it and it was still good when they abandoned it behind the shed. That broken window and the gouges wont take much to fix...... You know these things are like $2000 new so you have to accept some wear and tear when buying used......

Yup, what everyone else is saying...I WAS in the market for one. Waited so long, I'm just not even sure I want it anymore. It's definitely infuriating when you meet countless people who "just happened upon one" for next to nothing(compared to what it's worth). Anyway, luck, patience, and flexibility are your best friends when it comes to getting a deal on a shell.

That's a good question to get out there for this thread....

What caps, other than ones made for our trucks obviously, actually fit our trucks and look at least decent if not perfect?

Anyone know of any options....expand the search a little? I realize the color of anything off brand is most likely not going to cut it, but that can be changed pretty easily.

    Well an update.....

Mint is subjective. Drove 2.5 hours each way to spend 30 seconds before I left again. The black accents were a preschool repaint with black overspray all over the rest of the white. That was the positive part of the “MINT” no issues cap. Did I mention I just worked a 12 hour night shift went home showered and headed out first thing. Home now after being up for 24 hours.

If it had ghetto graffiti on it it would be worth more......

Best of luck guys but finding the reasonably priced gems are near impossible. I thought this was the ONE.

Definitely check for Tacomas in the area for sale that have them. The guy I got mine from actually told me that potential buyers didn’t want it. But it was a different color and definitely needed some love.

I think TW is your best bet. Surprised to hear you are having trouble finding one in NorCal.
