First stripped removed the rear seats, headrests, and useless console. Can't take credit for the low deck concept... saw it on a previous TW thread, but it made sense to me. The deck is 5/8 in. OSB with 2 x 6's for support. The rear carpet just tucks under the rear panel for a clean look, but can easily be pulled back for a easy access to the storage bins. By being low the seats can be reclined without interference and still have max deck area. Cans still place necessary items underneath on floorboard like umbrella, shotgun! The dog seems happy too. Now I'm still thinking about adding a mat or dog hammock on top of that for muddy paws----it never ends.

The stock rear seat configuration that folds down flat on your 08 makes alot of sense. Wish they would have left that alone!

I cannot believe I have never seen this thread before. It is perfect for me, my dog, and my 8" sub!

If you are still around, thank you for sharing. I intended to extend the carpet like you did but was in a rush and forgot. Lol. Thinking I will put another layer of durable/waterproof carpet down over the whole shelf the way you did, in addition to a strong speaker grille.

The only things I changed: Shelf is made of MDF. One half of the shelf is a sealed box for a shallow mount pioneer 8" sub. And I am thinking about putting a "fake" end on the open side to hide valuables.

Edit: I just noticed that I changed one more thing. I like how you shelf conforms to the center console, but my usual seat positions were pretty far back and inline, so I saved a lot of effort just using the factory straight edge of the MDF. I might fill the gaps with some foam when I put the full layer of carpet in.
