I'm looking at more like having enough to get passengers and a kid in a car seat out safely before the FD can show up. The rest is an insurance claim.

I saw one mounted in the back door of an a few access cabs when I was looking at trucks. Did these ever come stock, or would they always have been mounted afterwards?

Had a small electrical fire in engine compartment one day in the woods. Got out and ripped the wires out before it got out of control. Had a extinguisher ever since. Cause was my shitty wiring job.

My Ducati caught fire once... luckily was at work in the parking lot and grabbed an extinguisher and put it out. Minimal damage, Italian engineering.

I have no concern my Taco will catch on fire, so no extinguisher on board.

It might not be your Taco, could be someone else's Jeep Haha! Or you know a small brush fire caused by an errant cigarette or spilled camp stove, idiot lighting off fireworks ect. the possibilities are endless.

I'm in the FD and have been to quite a few car fires. 99% of the time once it gets going its toast. Most guys first reaction is to open the hood when they see smoke, and by opening the hood you just fanned the flames and fed it a ton of oxygen. By this time its easily a couple hundred gallons of water to put out. For something really small it might work but an engine fire good luck.

Yeah I'm not so worried about me, but some unforeseen event. Aka a bad driver cutting off a family sedan that catches fire...or someone with a vintage car that catches on fire from the carb. Ya never know. Recently, this parking lot fire. https//abc11.com/several-cars-catch-fire-in-parking-lot-of-carowinds-/3638472/

While we're on the topic, here are some local heroes that rescued a couple from a vintage car fire. Link.

Certainly a massive fire would be no match. But small ones yes.

I saw an engine bay catch on fire in the A-Basin parking lot once, maybe two or three foot flames. Bystanders broke the driver side window popped the hood and put it out with a fire extinguisher. But yeah anything beyond a meager flame some little ass fire extinguisher isn't gonna do much. Still I'd rather have one than not.
