It's a pyrotechnic gas generator. Generates a jet of some type of gas that starves the fire of oxygen.

Worth it? Dunno, hope I never get to find out. I was skeptical at first, but the theory is sound and I found enough info online to convince me. I used to ship something similar at an old job, but way larger, for use in server rooms. No liquid or pressurized gas to store, just light the candle and GTFO, displaces the oxygen and starves the fire.

    Can't beat the size either.

    i spend a lot i time on the hi-way

put out 1/2 doz vehicle fires

wouldnt have or use an extinguisher that doesnt have a hose on it

more accurite + the deployment is most effective

    good luck

Great point. I can speak to extinguishers in general and the exposure to the elements. Get a metal one (not the plastic handled ones) and you won't have to worry. I can show you some that are on roofs, exposed, and the red paint has faded. That's it for some that have been there since the early 2000s. They get their maintenance every 6 years and hydro tested every 12 years, and are doing good. Mount it in a way that it doesn't sit in standing water and you'll be good.

I like the concept of this compact setup a lot, but I feel like you’re going to have to put yourself extremely close to the just to put it out. Correct me if I’m wrong? There’s a video showing a guy extinguishing a fire, but his hand is super close to the fire. https://elementfire.com/ Whereas, the standard fire extinguishers you can aim and sweep from a further distance.

A couple of things. First any fire extinguisher is really only for fire in the incipient stage. Once something gets fairly well involved it's time to back off and wait for the guys in the big trucks. Second, never use an extinguisher unless you are wearing gloves.

Thanks, the mounting plate is from Desert Does It:
    https://desertdoesit.com/

And the quick release bracket is from a random company on Amazon! I can link you to my specific product if interested.

@AZOverland, hey thank you for following up with some more information. I really appreciate it. I’m going to check out desertdoesit and I’m up for a link to the bracket too. Thanks!

I’d be interested in the Amazon link. Are you happy with it? I’ve been wading through amazon shopping for one for my camper build but I’m having a hard time discerning the (If any) differences between the $30 and $60 ones.

I currently have mine mounted next to my can of bear spray. I should probably reconsider that. If I get confused in either situation I'm gonna have a bad day.

Sorry folks! I forgot to share that link. Here it is:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L7Z866H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yes, I am happy with it! The quality does not feel cheap to me, the spring mechanism tolerances feel nice and tight. Overall well worth the $29.90.

Thanks for that follow up link.

    btw
I reached out to Desert Does It and unfortunately they don’t have a bracket for 1st gens at this time. :/. It sucks because I think your set up is ideal. I need to keep my fingers crossed they revisit the concept and possibly introduce something for us first genners.

Yeah here's hoping. Honestly, after seeing the design, I feel that it would be relatively easy to DIY fabricate something similar at home in my garage. So there's that option for you as well
