I was thinking more an ice chopping ax, like for fishing not climbing

I could tell by the handle length they were not hatchets. Too long. Also, the thickness of the head and the depth of the cut puts them into the axe category. These are designed to forcefully break while cutting. Like a wedge splitter for logs. The history article says the shape of the hook was designed for pulling on rigging and the stoutness in the design for prying cannon balls out of the sides of wooden boats.

The fact that they are newer obviously makes them reproduction but that doesn't detract from the value. Handcrafted tools like these are not cheap at all. Depending on the craftsman they can be quite expensive. They are both quality pieces and with the proper care should last you a lifetime. I would wrap the handles near the heads in paracord or something to help protect from impacts. I wouldn't cover too much though, they are pretty too.

I know the tomahawk (the shiny one) is newer, but the small one I have no clue on it. Both were eBay auction wins! I only gave $20 or $25 for the small one. The tomahawk was made by Craig Barr of Deer Mountain Forge, not sure if he’s still selling them or not.

Built a basic target stand since I had some free time at work. Makes it easy when you work at the same place you buy the materials.

    That looks exactly like this.

    This one is $295

I think it would be worth it to reach out to that guy and ask him if they are his creations. If you don't want anything to do with them since you have kids now, I would certainly give you twice what you paid for them.

I know this one is a Craig Barr, he was the seller on eBay. It also has his initials in it!

Reminds me of an oversized Skatchet. I've have one of those in my Jeep bag for decades. Makes a pretty good hammer or hatchet. I wonder if they still make them?

Given the size of the first one I was thinking its a "firemans" belt hatchet, but threy have a tendency to get carried away w/ naming especially if its a one off custom. The second is definitely a tomahawk style, the hammer head poll made it more of an all around multi purpose tool.
Both great pieces and very cool!

Looks like a medieval weapon/Tool. The spiked end would likely go through armor. Saw something like it on a BBC mystery.
