I have a dot on my full size M&P (it’s a spare slide), so far I have about 400 rounds through it and I’m thoroughly impressed.
I found that the first 300 or so rounds finding and tracking the dot was slow and unnatural, I’ve been slowly improving with more range and dry fire time.

My recommendation would be to get one on a full size handgun or a .22 (cheap to shoot) and train with it until you decide “I want one on my carry pistol” or decide that it’s not for you.
I don’t have any experience with the 407K but I have the 507C and I’ve been happy with it, I think my next step is going to be purchasing a PPS M2 (I have a .40 M1 that I carry now) in 9mm so I can have the red dot capability and cheaper ammo while retaining the ability to run a light with the M1 frame.

That's a good idea, could put one on my full size M&P, try it out.

I would get the 507K not the 407K, but should be similar.

6.5CM barrel erosion is bogus BS. You will get just as many rounds our of a 6.5CM precision barrel as you will out of a .308 precision barrel. The biggest factor in barrel erosion in any precision barrel is using non SAMI spec loads, trying to push the projectile with higher than rated pressures, and this only comes into consideration if your doing your own loads and loading them hot. The military has moved to 6.5 as their replacement for .308 in their sniper rifles.

My experience tracks with this too. I got to play with the K-series prototype last year, and the production model at SHOT this year. It took some adjusting to focus through the smaller window. part of this could also be due to my awful eyes and double-astigmatism.

Thanks for the insight. Yes using the hotter loads is what I researched about. Isn't the 6.5 hotter than the .308? But per what you are saying factory loads wouldnt be as much of a difference when compared in that regard?

Factory loads are well within SAMI Spec. If you are loading to SAMI Spec you have nothing to worry about this. Most of us will never shoot enough rounds to wear out a barrel unless we are competition shooters.

They're perfect for my needs. The large case contains all of my cleaning supplies and the smaller case contains my tools, spare parts, loctite, grease, etc.

I've been running Luepold Delta Point Pro's on my Glocks (17,19, 26) for about +3 years. There was a learning curve, but with my eyes failing (slow to adjust from target to front sight), it was well worth it to train to shoot with an optic. Now I focus on the target (and what's behind), greatly speeding up transition times. I still end every range session with a irons drill, turning off the dot, using the irons setup for co-witness, but my main training environment uses the optic as the targeting system of choice.

There are drawbacks to using a read dot:
Straight up transition from hot to cold - optic may fog
Raining - optic may blur due to rain, but still usable with a quick shake

At my age, the pros outweigh the cons. I have optics all all my handguns with exception of my 1911s, wheel guns and my sig P356.

Hmm hadnt thought about that, so if I pull my gun out from next to my warm body in the winter, I may have a foggy optic....

Definitely go 6.5 if your goal is to get hits on target above all else. 308 has benefits, but not such that a precision rifle should run it anymore. You will wear the barrel faster, there's no debate there. Thing is, if you fire the 2-4k rounds to burn out the barrel on your precision gun, you're shooting enough that the extra performace is worth the price of a barrel replacement.

I run one on mine, pictured above. Try one first for sure, they're tougher to get used to after running irons than you'd expect, and they demand practiced draws to nail presentation. They'll reward the practice with equal speed to irons and WAY more capability for precision. You don't have to monkey with front sight focus, or sight alignment, or target position. Draw, present, focus on target, fire when dot is on the target. With good fundamentals and decent target focus you'll eat the center from whatever target you're shooting at, at most any handgun distance. I'm a convert.

I really want a 5” Performance center Ported CORE model in 9mm, they run around 750 if you can ever find them in stock.

It’s overbore. Thus it runs at a higher pressure thus it has less barrel life. About 3000 rds on top average side but it really depends how you shoot it. Go ahead and shot 10 rds per minute 5 times a day 3 times a week. See how long that barrel last. Lastly, Socom started using the creeds, their budget, armory and funding are different. It’s a isolated justification.

As far as performance...with the 308 being 4 inches shorter then my creed.

usually not a warm body to winter air, but it will with a optic at warm vehicle temp and taken into cold winter air.
