What length barrel do you have? I have an 870 as well but I want to swap my 28" barrel to something much smaller for HD. Can you provide links?

I would guess it's an 18.5" (Short barrels for shotguns start at 18" vs the 16" for rifles), this is my Smith and Wesson Model 3000 next to my 11.5" AR.

I have small humans, mine stay in a safe and chamber clear. No single points of failure.

Why haven’t I seen this thread sooner...Fall Cleaning. This represents a life time of an incurable “eye” disease...I want a Ruger Security 6 in 357...I want a Ruger Slab side 22...I want a two tone CZ P85 9mm...I want a Springfield XD in 40 SW...ugh absolutely no cure in sight. Guess I will just learn to live with it then!

I like shiny things. I think that’s the root of my problem...

Of interesting note, with the original pencil barreled M-16 A1 the use of the sling in this manner was discouraged. It tends to change the bullets point of impact. For accuracy you were supposed to just lay the fore end on the palm of the hand.

In actual practice the only place you saw that nonsense was on the qualification range. Outside the wire folks tended to hang on to their rifle much tighter.

As I recall, the original A1 was also full of issues, perhaps related. I think some places actually teach that sling wrao method now, too.

It’s an 18” police barrel. It’s a Remington barrel that i bought for it about 20 years ago at BPS.

Not old fashioned, newer versions of 2 point slings work for that and provide retention similar to a single point when employed properly. Examples would be the BFG Vickers sling, Ferro Slingster, and Viking Tactics VTAC. Knowing how to use it both ways is an art.

This. I run a Lunar Concepts 1" 2-to-1 sling, just like the vickers and others.. Took me a while and a few drill sessions to figure out what worked and what I liked best. Now I love it and the combinations. Usually run single point.. but liked the stability of 2 point wrapped around my arm while run and gun.. and also liked 2 point for just hiking the desert huntin varmint.

Butt pad finally came today. A good friend of mine gave this youth .243 rifle to my son last year and the butt pad was sticky. Not anymore

This peaked my curiosity about availability. I know that 10+ years ago when I was searching for a new 12 ga. factory Remington 18" in blue, to install on a Wingmaster mag., it was hard to find then. And it was only $45-$50. In a quick search, I saw none in blue even listed which mattered little as everything was BO anyway and 3-4x the price.

Well, it’s a Remington brand 18” Police barrel, I may still even have the box in the attic somewhere! I think I paid $75 for it.
