The first round in my 12 ga is a bean bag shell. The next 5 are OO buckshot. I keep it hot as well. I figure if I am forced to shoot someone I can tell the Sheriff that I popped them with the bean bag and they still came at me. just my .02

I’m in this same school of thought. I’ve got some bird shot (I know it’s lethal at close range, but I’m too cheap for specialty rounds) in the chamber and OO in the tube

Bean bag? I'd hate to think I had a beanbag as my first shot, against an armed intruder with lead and copper as his first shot. My first shot is buckshot or a 55gr pill, depending on what I have access to first.

I’ve got kids that we share a wall with. I want my first shot semi lethal but forgiving ish if I’m coming out of a deep sleep.

that’s my train I’d thought at least. Might be skewed and ignorant but it’s what I’ve got.

we also have more stringent laws in NC about killing intruders than I did in my home state of TX where I can kill you for being on my property.. because of that I’m a little more intentional lol

My Shotgun is not the first thing I would grab. My G19 is on the nightstand.
If you decide not to shoot the beanbag round all you have to do is rack it one time.

I understand where you’re coming from, and that’s life these days, one thought always towards how one will respond to after-action questioning.
I’m thinking that out here in the boonies if I ever need to take care of business that there will be an unmarked grave way out in the woods, just deep enough to keep the coyotes at bay. After all, if a shot goes off in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
    Just kidding ;):D

I won’t shoot unless I have to, but if I have to, I shoot to kill.

If I come home and there’s someone in there, and they take off through the back door, I’m not going to shoot the perpetrator in the back. It would be a different story if they stayed and confronted me, or they broke in while I was sleeping.

Check the scopes to see how bad off they got through last season and spring/summer (they stayed mostly stationary spring/summer minus the occasional backyard coyote) luckily I was able to conserve ammo and each gun hit the same hole at 25 yards so should be good enough for an ol white tail.
