The best advice I ever got was go to the store and pick them all up. See what fits your hand and which you like best, then do some research about pros and cons.

Go to a range and rent what they have. If the range is any good they’ll have most of the popular pistols available to try out. Just holding it isn’t enough

I'm going to go a different route with this question. Buy a Sig 320 or some variety of mainline Glock unless you want to limit what you can get in the aftermarket.

I'm definitely not tired of trying to futz with a non-mainstream platform or anything.

I'm also definitely not jealous of the new P320 AXG either. Nope.

Yeah I’ve been scrolling that thread a bit.

Thanks for your responses, guys. Yeah I’ve been to a range and held a bunch of guns at the local shops. After 10’s of hours of online research I’ve held in my hand most of the pistols on my list.

I just thought a thread on here might have some guns I hadn’t come across yet.

Now is very difficult time to find a gun. As others have said, put as many different ones as you can in your hand. You said you did that, so you are off to a good start.

Quality wise, most are top notch. Some might be smoother than others, but all will function safely. So no big worries there.

Another suggestion - when you buy one, if you really don't like it, sell it and replace it with one you do. Don't feel you have to keep one (be stuck with it) just because.

Whatever you end up with, you want to be comfortable and confident with it.

A long time ago I put a spreadsheet together trying to quantify the ideal concealed carry handgun and I pulled a lot of guns together to make it. I'll see if I can dig it up.

The BEST carry gun in the world is the one you have on you, that you are proficient with, and confident that it's going to work .....every time. I have a LOT of carry guns in my safe. I am proficient with all, and I am confident they will all work first time every time (otherwise they would not be there). Usually, I change up due to seasonal change and the clothing change that comes with it. Even then, I will dry fire practice every night for a week with a change in carry gun, working both trigger control and draw stroke.

The bottom line is this. Choose a gun that fits you comfortably, that you will carry every time you leave your "comfort zone." Then practice both dryfire and live fire to solidify your proficiency and confidence that it will be able to operate the gun if necessary.

Lastly .... always be vigilant. Become a student of your environment. Understand cover and concealment. Practice rules of engagement and the "what if" scenario. Learn to inspect everyone you meet and decide who is friend, who is foe, what your options are escape, evade, or engage. Make it a part of your life, such that it is automatic.

Curious from an FFL, do you see right now as a good time to consign? I have a handful of low, mid and high end handguns and a Wilson Recon (could include ammo with each). Not desperate for $$ but willing seller.

Yes, unless your local FFL is charging an arm and a leg for consignment fees

With the way everything is disappearing...I'd imagine everything you got will see fast unless its junk or overpriced

That is my personal evaluation of an unfired handgun. I bought it cheap to use as a fishing/camping carry but would absolutely not trust it as an everyday carry. The safety is very sticky. It could be the gold standard and I still wouldn’t trust it because of my lack of confidence after repeated dry cycling and handling. Others may say the same about the XDS that I have great confidence in. I am not a gun store owner or collector that sees and handles virtually every common firearm made at least monthly so my bias is my own.

A comparison of specs can be helpful if you’re unable to get your hands on them. Or to help decide what you might WANT to get your hands on.
