I carried my uncles son deer hunting with me when he was 10. He brought that sks. We get to the blind and he hands me a stripper and ask how to load it. I said dang if I know, never been around one. We finally figured it out and long story short, he missed a deer with it and I wound up killing one with it

That friend I mentioned earlier took his deer hunting but made the mistake of trying to use the FMJ, didn't work well. He got some of the soft point and it worked great of course.

I lived in southwest Virginia for the first 28 years of my life, everything is illegal there!

That's seems crazy. I've never been to Virginia before but West Virginia and there it seems nothing is illegal! At least 20 some years ago

In the county where I lived, if your vehicle was not stock, you would get pulled over by the state police. But if you had a truck with a V8 and straight pipes, headlight/taillight burnt out, busted windshield you were good to go. Make sense? That was Scott County, I miss where I grew up, just not the BS.

Wasn't it early 90s when everyone lost their mind over those?
Then someone came out with pretty much identical loads with a different name.
They also had black talon rifle rounds. Took a few elk with those.

Black Talons don’t meet that description

Winchester changed the color of them, continue to coat them but they’re not black and they’re called Ranger SXT or T Series now

Early-mid 90’s, back before I had discovered America.
The rifle rounds were re-marketed as “Winchester fail safe”, I don’t know when they stopped production of those.

I sold a couple boxes of 9mm to a guy who really wanted them bad years ago , for a similar price.

kept a bunch of 45acp and 44 mag talons , both work well on deer . I’m down to my last magazine of 45

Once Winchester introduced those, the media freaked out, and ran their now-usual smear campaign. They talked about how coroners would get injured removing these bullets from dead perps - yes, I'm serious. Along with other BS, they created so much bad press that Winchester pulled them.

A year or 2 (or more?) later, they were "redesigned" and introduced as Ranger SXT. IIRC, revolver calibers were not part of the re-introduction.

I have a couple of bullets I shot into phone books or water, don't remember which. They are definitely nasty. Winchester had a really good idea, and it worked very well.
