Edit. To clarify my nongun friends asked me for my thoughts and I'm excited. CZ makes good stuff.

 

I have had a hankerin for a CZ97 for years since I read Monster Hunter International.

 

A friend has the 40B it’s a nice gun...But I opted for the 85B Duo Tone. Fine piece of engineering. I have several CZ’s Love each one.

Now there’s just one original American gun manufacturer by my count. Smith and Wesson. It’s a shame.

Well in the case of Colt, getting too comfortable off the tit of the .gov and not listening to the consumer market as JimBeam said. The actual Springfield armory closed back like in 68’ or something.

Remington probably deserves it’s own thread just to unpack everything they dun did wrong.

I’m not sure, I believe it’s meant to denote a manufacturer who has been around for many years but I could be wrong.
What is your definition of a “Original gun manufacturer” @dfanonymous ? I’m a bit confused.

 

You’re right about savage. And it is subjective...I have no technical definition to “original”. By my logic I didn’t list ruger because they became a business during or around ww2 making them one of the newer companies. S&W is the only one that popped in my head when I wrote that.

I don’t know this for a fact, but I feel contracts with the .gov and the 870 where the only thing keeping them afloat for awhile.

Their custom shop for was just a overpriced way of getting a semi custom rifle, something bergara fully surpassed them with on their on foot print.

 

another thing, overreaching their bounds. Their ownership group bought SOO many companies, some of which they couldn't either resell or make money with them. Not just Marlin, but Bushmaster, DPMS, Para, AAC, etc. And while it took away competitors, it also bloated them heavily.
