If you were doing post-storm cleanup on your own property what would your choice of firearm for protection be?
The biggest threat is water moccasins here so this is a little overkill but it’s my favorite handgun so I figured I might as well carry it.

something fast shooting, low recoil, and low chance of bad ricochet, so a 22lr pistol with at least a 12rd mag. I like my M&P 22 FS for that.

In the chance you miss you can throw it and kill someone. It hits just as hard as shooting it

A brief review of the summary confirms the notions that have been largely espoused by the EDC/CCW community for a few years: WML's allow you to make a last-second check to ensure you're not about to shoot something that doesn't need to be shot, especially when good training is applied.

I got to “function test” my carry pistol tonight, turns out a subcompact .40 isn’t the best snake gun option. He escaped the (2) Federal HST’s to get caught by a game load of 28 gauge.
Now I remember why I used to keep a spare mag of ball ammo when I would work in the woods or around the pond. Granted with today’s ammo prices the JHP’s are the same price as FMJ.

A former coworker shot a copperhead with Speer gold dot 40s once...hit it in the face and the snake soaked it up and came at him.

    Pistols are not for snakes

    That would suck.
Yep, I’ve had good luck the 2 other times I’ve had to shoot snakes at that property (once with my PPS and once with an LCP) but I prefer the shotgun, it’s just not handy to have on-body like a pistol.

I've shot plenty of snakes with pistols. Never had a problem, but then again they were rattlers. Those copperheads must be made out of vibranium or something.
