Any thoughts on the fair purchase price of a Steyre Scout RFR in 17HMR? With original case and in “good” condition.

This thing is pretty compact as it is. With the 8" barrell and the brace set where I have it it's total length is 25 1/4". It does have a buffer tube. I was just thinking being able to fold the stock would make it easier to conceal as a truck gun. I don't see spending the extra $300 for the folding adapter for my use. It's pretty small now anyway.

Wish me luck, flying to Cali with a gun and it’s my first time flying with a gun in a while, hopefully United is all right with how it’s packaged. The Beretta is locked inside the locked case, the cut foam keeps the shotshells from moving, and it’s a total of 5 locks.

TSA gave me shit for a plastic case as they said it could be pried open 2 yrs ago when I flew to FL with an AR. They eventually gave in when I had just about every TSA, Dulles Airport police Capt and even 2 Federal agents involved.

The words "Locked in a hard sided container" seems to have many meanings according to TSA...

TSA rule: Firearms must be unloaded and "locked in a hard-sided container" and transported as checked baggage only.

One would think you would be okay with the redundancy you have in place.

California’s gun laws are applicable to every person in the state of California, including non-residents. Those with a concealed-weapon permit in a different state are not entitled to carry a concealed weapon in California.

Breaking the TSA’s rules for traveling with a gun can result in a $10,000 fine or arrest. Carrying a concealed gun in California without a state-sanctioned permit can result in a hefty fine and prosecution. In most cases, it will be a felony charge.

TSA in Ms didn’t have an issue with it, we’ll see if Cali TSA has an issue with it on Monday

Yep, I’m familiar with Calis laws, I was a resident for nearly 18 years and I’ve kept up with their laws for the most part.
It’s almost worth going back to being a reserve officer just to have HR218 benefits, I just don’t have time with my current job.

I need to get a few of the pelican cases, they’ve been on my “to get” list but not high priority, taking the gun on this trip was last second so I didn’t have time to grab one.

Do you use TSA "approved" locks or your own?

I heard (no personal experience) that you had to use their approved locks - which they can open.

Look at Storm cases, as well. Now owned by Pelican, they are as good as (better???), and cost about the same. Different features - figure out which works best for you.

I used to live in Cali as well - the gun laws are far more draconian now then when I was there.

At this point, I drive everywhere instead of fly. Cali is a long haul, but I've learned to love road trips!

Yep. Use a TSA qualifying container. Open if required to show condition at check in. If TSA needs to open it they will. Too many non TSA people have access to “TSA keys”.

I think it took a whole minute or two for non authorized folks to get the keys to the kingdom.

I’ll check them out, thanks for the heads up.

I typically prefer to drive also but ~65 hours of driving for a 5 day trip didn’t seem like a good idea, especially with a single driver.
