Is there any other way to carry other than cocked n locked? That's how you're supposed to carry a hammer fired gun with a safety!

Locked and cocked is for single action guns. There really IS no way to carry it practically besides locked and cocked.

Double action pistols that can be decocked can be carried hammer down. It is a safety feature.
It’s not my cup of tea but it is a thing.

Decocked w/ safety on is condition 1 in the military for something like an m9. For those like myself that carried a 1911, the mag inserted, round in chamber, hammer cocked, safety on is the duty carry procedure.

Mine is a DA/SA. I hate the 11lb double action pull on mine, so I carry mine cocked and locked for a 6lb pull on the first shot.

The 11 lb trigger is the safety feature I mentioned built in during decock.
The problem is, the safety isn’t a easy thing to remember to do when you need it, or easy for some little girl hands to operate with the thumb on double action pistols. Relative to a 1911.

Its why a lot of organizations went to glock. People didn’t have to remember to take of the safety and do weird shit with their hands to get it to work.

When I first started we had the Smith 4006. Carried it round in the chamber, decocked, but decocker in the neutral position. No safety except for the initial 400lb trigger pull, followed by a 1oz pull for the followup shots. Much happier with the M&P.

I carry my M&P with 1 in the pipe, don't believe in carry guns with safeties.

My FS 92 cannot have the hammer cocked and the safety on. Flipping it to safe decocks it.

It is easy enough to cock it with my thumb, so IF I were to carry it, I would just depend on the heavy DA for first round or cock with my thumb.

    I like that mat!

I used to not trust a gun without a safety, but I have matured a bit.

I now carry a striker fire with one in the chamber. My M&P Shield gen1 has a safety and that's my primary self defense. Need to get a holster for the M&Pc (no safety) so that I can start carrying that.

On the maturation process comment, I used to think that 7 rounds of .40cal was enough to get me out of a sticky situation should it ever arise. In theory, I still think that, but I've seen too many videos where the pressure was so high that an otherwise accurate shooter either missed entirely or didn't put the shot where it needed to be. I now like the idea of having 15+ ready as opposed to 7.

If it needs a safety to guarantee it won't go off, it doesn't belong pointed at my junk for 10+ hours a day. I run the 7 round mag so I have 8. The general stats on self defense shootings is that half miss, and then it takes 2 center of mass hits to guarantee an incapacitation. Not alot of room for error, especially with multiple attackers. I live in a state that limits me to 10 anyway so I just have extra mags, not ideal but the best I can do.

I have hand guns with and without safety. It doesn’t bother me one way or the other. I like all my hammer and striker fired guns!

You really shouldn't just trust the safety. They are a mechanical device, prone to failure. OK, maybe not "prone", but they can fail.

A 1911 has multiple safeties, and the chance of all of them failing at once in pretty much non-existent.

Point being, your gun handling procedure is what will keep you safe.
