So, I'm at a cross road. 10.5" sbr, I know a can wouldn't really make it hearing safe.
Do I go with a can to make it a little better, or do I figure out what muzzle device will throw a flame and direct the sound at what/whoever may end up downrange in the future?

As someone who has been shot at multiple times

You can train train train (and its very important for sure) but you won't know how you react until you're in the middle of the live fire two way range

The more time you spend driving a specific gun, the less you have to worry about when you're in an actual life threatening event

Wife and I shoot at least 1k rounds a month, mostly doing pistol drills. Trying to develop that muscle memory!

I like a K can on the short guns, I run an 11.5” instead of a 10.5” but in my experience the YHM turbo K or Resonator Kate good budget options.

I was looking at the Turbo K vs T2. Just trying to decide if the extra length would be worth it vs just a linear comp or maybe a cookie cutter.

Go once a month for about 250 rounds.

Have to go out of state to do holster drills, etc. The 2-3 Bay Area ranges won’t even let you do quickdraw or rapid fire drills.

I’ll almost always say to run the can, I think I’m double digits in form 4’s now, you won’t regret having a can on it if you train with it or ever shoot under a cover or at an indoor range.

For me shooting ranges are like golf course driving ranges. 99% of golfers think they
can hit a golf ball 300 yards like a Pro. 99% of golfers are full of shit. I always get
nervous at gun ranges. So many people don't know shit about their guns and have no
idea how to shoot. People look at me crazy when they see me moving into different positions
and shooting from different angles. I've been fortunate to train with some of the military's best
gun fighters. With regards to rounds in the chamber with a safety and no safety. If you are well
trained and comfortable with your weapon you should be able to clack off your 1st round pretty
quickly. I prefer not to have a round in the chamber and safety on. Only in the military have I
carried my weapons with a round in the chamber. :infantry:

Why? By the time it takes you to put your gun into battery, you could have 3 holes in you already. Someone who’s been trained proficiently with firearms can safely carry chambered.

If you carry a gun for self defense, it should always be chambered.

In my civilian life I should be okay to carry without a round in the chamber.
If I get nervous I can always get locked, cocked and ready to rock. :oldglory:

That’s assuming you can even successfully chamber a round under pressure.

My main concern with it has always been that it take 2 hands to rack the slide, might need to draw with one hand and with one in the pipe I can draw and shoot one handed if I need to.

Putting your gun into battery gives more time for the perp to shoot you dead. The faster gun is going to win the gun fight every time.

Assuming no FTF jam, in a scenario where I'd have 3 holes before racking the slide I'd probably have 1 or 2 before getting a hand on the grip. I'm more focused on a home defense scenario since until very recently the option to legally carry hasn't existed for 99.9% of people in my county of residence, and my job technically prohibits even having a weapon in the car which would eliminate most of my trips outside the house if I do get a CCW now that every state has to be a "must issue" jurisdiction.

My personal thinking in a home defense situation is that if I don't have time to rack the slide/pump on the weapon, then I probably don't have time to identify what I'm facing, and getting the gun into battery can be done while also bringing it onto "target". For pistols with only trigger/grip safeties, I'd rather be putting my hand on one that's not going to fire if adrenaline and haste lead to grabbing inside the trigger guard instead of on the frame. If they get the drop on me that badly, a half second won't make a difference and there's no benefit to going all "Plaxico" and putting that first hole in myself with a ND.
