It's a pretty safe bet that whatever Everytown says, the opposite is true. Unless the cop's gun had a legitimate mechanical failure/defect (which is exceedingly rare), it probably discharged either because his holster was junk and the trigger got caught in some way, or he was handling it negligently. In the world of infinite possibilities anything can happen I suppose, but safe handling and a good holster should all but eliminate any chance of the gun firing "accidentally".

Everytown claimed it as a "school shooting"; their criteria on assembling that list was pretty much (no bulllshit on this part) to include any incident where at least one round of ammunition was discharged and in which the word "school" appeared in a news story. I think one of their "school shootings" happened in a Wal-Mart parking lot, but the news coverage named the High School which the person who either killed himself or just shot into the air had graduated from.

The report of the incident (which did actually involve a gun firing inside a school with no injuries) that was cited to debunk the idea that it amounted to an incident comparable to Columbine or Sandy Hook was from the police records, which is where the claim was that somehow a holstered weapon had fired a into the floor next to the cop's foot. I know the Everytown claim was BS, but I also suspect the official record on file with the PD doesn't track with reality either.

If we're being honest, many cops aren't gun people, they just happen to work in a profession where it's necessary to carry one. Depending on the department they work for, they might not need to qualify more than once a year, and really don't have any more experience handling guns then some noob off the street. Not uncommon to read about a cop having a negligent discharge and then claiming in the report that the gun just "went off" on its own somehow.

Is anybody headed to SHOT Show next year? I'll be there all week. Would be great to get a group together for a drink or something.

So I need thoughts from the collective brain trust here

    20221118_172700.jpg

One of my shotguns has started doing this...it also locks up the action to where I have to slam the butt on the ground to open the pump

Never had any issues before and owned the shotgun since 2007...happened today with 4 or 5 different brands of ammo

People play fast and loose with words when it comes to firearms, like the word "clip". Bolt is the right word, you can't open a pump, but you can open a bolt. People reference the "pump" on my mossberg 930 all the time.

The means extraction is getting hard for some reason, look in the chamber for a burr or some other imperfection. Also inspect the outside of the cartridge for any signs it was hanging up somewhere.
