Any former or current Indiana residents ... do you remember the tacky TV commercials for "Don's Guns"? "I don't want to make any money ... I just loooove to sell guns!"

You ever open one up? It looks like a Swiss Watch in there. Simple on the outside but tricky and detailed on the inside.

I love the 32H&R. Currently have three and have had at least three others I've sold. My wife's house gun is a Ruger 101 in 32H&R shooting 115gr gold dots around 1150fps. Sure, there are better, but the 32H&R is so easy and fun to shoot that I have no issues with it for self defense. A revolver is nice too because in a stressful situation all you have to do is point and pull the trigger.

I'm on the look out for a good used 101 in .327 at a decent price. I just don't want to pay the going rate for a new one.

Opinion please, before I spend the same for a gun as 3 Starbucks moly-poly double-duper-higgly-something-something items ...

Snubnose concealed-carry revolvers like a S&W 642 ... are the Hi-Viz nightsights worth the money or just worthless on a 1.88 inch barrel? "Not worth it" opens up a less-expensive route with 38 SPL +P capacity ...

Nightsights in general are only worth it there’s a chance you might need it in low to no ambient light. That includes fighting in low light structures….like movie theaters.

Only you can assess that risk for yourself.

I have AmeriGlo on my G45 which is at home. I am looking at a "travel gun" that goes into places that will soon be flying a very red flag but will still have some kick. If I am camping in Death Valley I doubt I will be shooting at something too far away.

If you need to sight in a target at night (low/no light situation) night sights are worth the money - short or long barrel.

Decide on the gun independent of the sights.

It’s nothing to do with the distance. It’s the sight acquisition.

if you shoot enough with good fundamental technique in your draw and presentation, then at close range ( say inside 7 yards) you shouldn’t have a problem. It’s the follow up shots when things turn to chaos and need to zip them up if you know what that means.

I’d say no. With training you should be able to point on target for the distance that barrel is capable of without sights. Muscle memory should be taking over there.

if you’re talking a semi, sure. Spend the money. On a 2” barrel revolver with that amount of trigger pull, I’d just practice practice practice so that when I draw I know where that bullet is going within a couple of inches

It’s a point and shoot, short range weapon. For my use the sights aren’t needed and may cause more issues in various carry methods for a snub nose revolver.

While I agree, and essentially said as much about training, my issue would be that it doesn’t work like that anatomically.

Where one person can have a negligent discharge and kill themselves with a single bullet, often is the case that people don’t go down in one shot when you need a threat to
immediately cease. Follow up shots are critical on the sight. Instinctive shooting only gets you so far, but when they fall over or start hopping around things get a little different, and that doesn’t mean they are out of the fight.

Best I can say without being critical of wheelguns and getting on a soapbox.

Personally I like night sights on everything I'm going to carry. If its going to be a safe queen or a range gun, then it doesn't really matter.

This answer is also for the others who answered ...

Thanks for the input. My G45 is a long enough barrel to warrant the nightsights. My G44 (22LR) is a target/practice so is not worth it. SW has a 38 SPL +P chrome model with sights that goes for $750, no internal lock which I have been warned against. Other non-sight models are $550+.

    PDWs get tritium sights.

All a flashlight on your barrel does is show the perp where to aim.

And you're covering whatever your lighting up. Dog, wife, kid.....

I've got a couple of old school .38 Specials I inherited from my Father in Law. One is a Police Special and the other is a snub nose. I was under the impression not all .38 Specials could shoot +P ammo?

From what I read in the specification sheets, you are correct. The cylinder must be strong enough. But if the gun body says it can (ex: "38 SPL +P") then it can. I suspect the smaller-body concealed-carry guns are not all up to that spec because of weight, so look at the gun itself.

But I only know from reading specifications and looking at the pictures of the guns ... for now. I should know more soon.

That’s the reason I don’t carry a revolver ever. I can’t hit shit with a follow up shot on one. Even switched from the 44mag to a 10mm for a backup in bear country cause I can put lead down range on point quickly with an auto but not a revolver.

my point was that short of a barrel is going to limit you to short distance and thus typically only enough time for one round before someone is right on top of you. That first round should be mostly muscle memory. Or at least, that’s what works for me.. maybe not the majority
