Same. A lot of agency’s I’ve worked with won’t even sign off on it off duty or as a back up.

I carry a g20 in grizzly country too. I’m usually not super worried out west here in black bear country. I could punt a lot of those bears off the mountain after curling it by the neck. Though, yes, I’ve seen some 400 lb black bears before.

Did you hear about the dude in Idaho, the recent grizzly attack? Talk about tap, rack bang and a string of bad luck.

The other side is some of us grew up on wheel guns and never fired semiautomatic pistols until many years into our shooting experiences. I have no issue with double or single action revolvers for self defense, but I’ve been shooting them for 50 years. I also shoot weekly with multiple platforms. I suppose they are a poor choice for those who have rarely used them or rarely shoot, but most things would be.

Also, I’m not a fan of the traditional magnums for things other than dedicated hunting revolvers. I prefer a 45colt or 44 special loaded with proper bullets at moderate speeds. Much more control without giving up killing/stopping power. I’ve never liked any .357 I’ve ever shot.

I'd like to buy a .22 pistol solely for plinkin, probably wait till next year but I love to research. I wouldn't mind if it was south of 300 bucks, I'd also like a compact size so its similar in size to most of my other stuff. The Taurus TX22 Compact is interesting, so is the Walther P22Q but I've read that some of them are junk. Which sucks cause I love me some Walthers. Any suggestions?

I hadn’t seen that story! I guided in black bear country and aside from them snagging my food, they don’t stress me out at all. Brown bears are a different story but still haven’t come across one on foot while hunting. I carry spray and an XDm elite

I get sticking with what you’re comfortable with. Im not trying to change your mind. Idc.
I’m just throwing information out there. Y’all can do whatever you want with it.

The issue “in my experience” is more that modern technique that actually work isn’t really translatable to a wheel gun. Believe it or not, some of us have not only trained in many aspects of CQB (and spent a lot of time in killhouses), but have been in real gunfights and not just on one occasion.

On top of modern techniques, you’re never going to get around the limitations of ammo capacity of a wheel gun. I’m not going to repeat my prior post but, that still applies. Anatomy. Even when a human is mortally wounded, they aren’t necessarily out of the fight or at the same distance things started at.

Guys like to hop around, jump, fall, get behind cover, use their friends as shields, etc if you don’t drop them on the first round. That doesn’t happen as much as one might think it does. That’s just in general. Drugs, body armor, thick clothing layers, or poor angle of bullet entry are other issues that you simply cannot control in a fight.

Well, unfortunately I’ve been shot at multiple times and have effectively returned fire as well.
I’m comfortable with my choices. First, I prefer to avoid situations where I think I need to be armed. Second, I’d rather have a long gun than a handgun when it comes time to act. Third, I’m more interested in using what muscle memory has imprinted on me for many, many years.

Been there, done that and my days of CQB are over. I’m formidable in my environment and that’s all I care about. People should train with what they have, regardless of what that is. Lack of training and poor situational awareness is most people’s downfall, not the firearm they fight with.

I’m not trying to change your mind either, but I wouldn’t discount some of us old timers based on what’s in our hand.

lol I don’t even try to fuck with old timers and their old systems. That shit has worked for so long. I’m always impressed at what some of the old men I’ve hunted with can accomplish with gear and firearms from decades ago :rofl::rofl:

    Till it didn’t.

1986 Miami dads shoot out for instance. That’s about the time it started hitting home for law enforcement agencies. The military was already about that 1911 life very much prior and had rearmored the M9 around the mid 80s.
Training had little to do with it.

There is a little situation called being out gunned. And it’s a bad one to be in. Regardless of the training.

Thought we were talking self defense, where the goal is extraction. Offensive use, yeah, the more the better. I learned about 30 years ago I’ll never give Jason Statham a run for the money on solo CQB.

Regardless of which side you are on, first rule of a gun fight is have a gun. Train often. Be mentally prepared to use it.

I’m old enough to have used the 1911 and M9. I prefer the 1911 and have a few lying around. Most in service were beyond worn out though. Still preferred my A1 over the 1911 though.

I have 3 different MKII Rugers. Stainless and Blue 4.75” standards and this 7” Target. They are a great pistol for the price. IMG_5484.jpg

    I think it’s relative.

    Modern problems, modern solutions.

I have a G44. I recommend using quality 22LR because a less-expensive target brand misfires at least 1 round per magazine. Quality ammunition seems to never fail. Grain count was a match to quality so maybe-just-maybe the firing caps were faulty.

Do the new Ruger 22 pistols still have that mag safety that screws up the trigger?

I remember fighting for like 2 hours with my Mark III to remove it...but after I finished the trigger was much better.

Part of the reason I like the MK2 is that it has some significant improvements over the previous model, but avoids some of the subsequent changes that I don’t want. Plus, they can be really cheap used. I paid $240 for my Stainless Standard, which just needed a few hours of attention to clean and detail it. Now it looks better than new with vintage Pachmayr grips and a light polish.
